Seems the ears on my 1984 R80 transmission input shaft gear failed and a replacement gear is required. I'm hoping to possibly locate a failed shaft assy due to spline wear that had a serviceable gear but would welcome any advice on how to proceed in sourcing and replacing this gear.
Thanks,
Craig G.

The cheapest and probably smartest thing to do would be to look for a rebuild able box of the same build period.
Boxes needing a rebuild frequently sell for $150 or so and those parts might easily cost that much. Add that fact in with other considerations and a different box might be the best way to go.
As Always, YMMV..!

Why not just renew the gear? It's still available, and not too overpriced.

Also, there is a couple of sets available on Ebay buy it now for under 1C.
What were the symtoms noted if any??

The ebay items are the 15 degree versions which preceded the 17.5 degree that I have ...but good idea. I found the problem by inspection of the gearbox although I think it would have been apparent under hard acceleration.
May have to go new...
Thanks to all.

there are two different 17.5 gears, an earlier one (#591) which you probably have and a latter one (#991). The input shafts have different splines. It would be better to just buy the primary gear. Inspect the spring for being in spec, also the ears on the thrust adaptor.
I have a input shaft and two bearing (bearing have about 600 miles on them) which are in good condition if you are interested in it.
