Pop goes the engine

Every once in a while my '03 K1200RS makes a popping sound when I blip the throttle, usually when I'm downshifting and coming to a stop. It's happened three or four times now, and I'm wondering if it could be the ECU. I've resisted having it replaced because the bike runs great in every other respect. Also, this problem doesn't seem to match the symptoms that are usually associated with a bad ECU. If it isn't the ECU, what else might it be?

Could be a loose nut on one of the header pipes. It happens on ocassion.

Once in a while?! I have extra nuts I used to carry for the 98. They came loose constantly for the first 25k miles. After that they were fine.

That would be surprising with only 2400 miles. The pop is not so much like a backfire. It's more like the engine dies for a sec. Anyway, thanks for the tip, I'll check it out.
