If I were able to get us a track day on Thursday of rally, BMW only, who would be interested? Mid Ohio should have a good layer of rubber on the track between vintage days and Superbike week.

I'd love to, but I'll be busy.

Track day at Trenton was fantastic! If you can get us on to Mid-Ohio you can count on me!

Gee, I expected more votes out of 160 visits.

Loraz -- I looked at this page a couple times before deciding to vote.

I'd do this for sure if it's a) Mid-Ohio and b) I ride my K12RS to the rally.

Thanks for asking!

I put that it depended on what it costs, but I meant 'costs' in a really broad way.

If plans come together, I might make it to Lima. If I ride my bike to Lima, I would not wish to make a lot of changes (coolant, mirrors, tie misc stuff, tires, etc.) to ride on the track.

I *would* like a cool picture of me zipping through a corner at some prominent racetrack.

Ok then. What if you got a cd of the ontrack foray, with a group shot?
Remember, there is racing almost every day on bike week at Mid Ohio.
I bet there will be an awesome line on the track. Remember, to go fast and have fun, you need an uncrowded track. I imagine this will have a rider limit. The paced laps will be able to handle a couple hundred riders, but much less for the actual track day.
What if you had a session where you could ride two up on the track so swmbo could experience the track with you. Just thinking here if this would make a difference in your vote.

I really do recommend the track day it was a blast. It also made me a lot more confident. Yes, you can get some great pictures. Check out http://www.bradfordbenn.com/beemer/trips/trackday040508.htm

If there's sort of a model for this, it's that the RA rally at Barber's in Birmingham, AL had Reg Pridmore and his CLASS Motorcycle School. It seemed like they pretty well filled the track. There didn't seem to be a shortage of rally-goers interested in getting on the raceway, and the participants I talked to had a blast.

Almost everyone here knows more than me about how track days can be organized. A Reg Pridmore school seems like one end of the spectrum, representing a highly organized track day(s). It seems like track days can be less formal as well.

I figure that there will be a number of willing photographers, so I don't see that getting somebody to take photos will be a problem. Organizing the distribution of photos (including group photos) will take some thinking. Personally, I don't need a print copy. I'd prefer that the file be available on the net somewhere and I print it locally.

What will the track require in bike and rider preparation? My bike and I are fairly minimalist.

I'm guessing all "track days" are not created equal, so what I'm really after is some instruction before/during/after laps. I know there are different instructors available, so I'd hope we pick a good class, along with a reasonable amount of track time included.

Maybe we need to define what our needs are, and what the track has to offer. I'm still interested in just running laps, but less interested than if I learn some good skills.

Ok, here are more things to consider weather you want to ride a track day. You will need to remove/cover with tape the mirrors and other glass/plastic items on the bike. Gaffers tape works really well.
You will need some type of protective clothing, and a helmet. Jeans will not be allowed. A 'stitch is fine, and any of the protective clothing most of us wear will suffice.
There will be instruction for everyone there. Rider ability doesn't really matter, since groups will be broken down into those who have track experience, and those who feel they want to run wfo. there will also be a novice group for those who just want to improve skills, and get a taste of riding on the track.
This is NOT a free for all where you just go out and run around on the track, and hope you dont get run over.
I am guessing about 3.5 hours of track time, 30 minutes on and 30 minutes off the track, with an hour for lunch.
The 30 minutes off the track will be filled with rehydrating, resting (you will need it) and instruction. Groups will be about 8 people per instructor.
I guarantee that you will have a blast, and get some tips and training that will dramatically improve your confidence and riding skills.

{snip} Jeans will not be allowed. {snip}

I guess I'd need to see the detailed requirements by the track and sponsoring organization to decide. For example, you didn't state that antifreeze was not allowed. It use to be that at least some 'track days' --and we know that covers a lot of diverse ground -- required the antifreeze being replaced. And, tires need to be in muchbetterthanstreet condition.

But, I'm out based on what you stated, since I haven't yet gone beyond jeans.

Nevertheless, if history is any indication, there will be plenty of people interested in the track day.

Having picked gravel out of my thigh where the jeans wore through, I would recommend a pair of riding pants. My legs and lower torso are just as important to me as my upper body. I dont leave home without ATGATT. If you have anti freeze in your bike, it wont need to be drained. That wouldnt apply in this case. Tires need to be above the wear bars, better than 50 percent is best.

The requirements for the school that Loraz put the idea together for this summer were pretty fair. You could use normal antifreeze and stuff, just the tires had to be in good shape. Really it was not too bad. It will all depend on the organizer. Do not worry too much about it. The basic rule was to make sure people were safe.

The requirements were undoubtedly fair. I'd just need to know before I paid. Being clear on the clothing and tires would be one thing. Another would be whether I'd need to pull the kickstand(?).

I didn't have to, it was suggested as I might scrape it during the turns. So I took it off. It would have scraped, I scraped the foot pegs and it was fun. :brad

Given what's been stated before, I'm interested on getting on the track too. I'm planning my ride from So. Cal. already, with plans to arrive on Thursday. I've got no motorcycle track experience but did have the pleasure of driving a F1 car on the track in Las Vegas. Woooo Hooooo!
