On another thread I posted, one of the responses mentioned that '95 and newer K1100 bikes had "head bearing issues". I hadn't heard of this. Can anyone tell me: "what's up ith that"?

Thanks,
Mike

I have had two 1993 K1100LT's both had to have the head bearings tightened up. A friend has replaced head bearings in two different K11LT's he owned. It's something that you should watch for in older bikes. Similar to dried up grease in drive shaft u-joints, dry rotted vacuum hoses, bellows gaskets that go between the throttle bodies and the intake manifold, dry rotted rubber isolators that hold the electronics boxes apart under the saddle, repacking the front wheel bearing, cleaning the elctrical connections.

Older bikes and higher mileage bikes require more owners attention. You should also carry some spare parts with you. I like to have a headlight bulb, clutch cable, saddle bag hinges for the K bikes, oil, filter, crush washers, flashlight. All that and a pint of good whiskey.
