The GSA loves my "rock", well above my home in the high Sierra's of CA...This is a 45 degree+ climb, descent on granite, etc for miles of this stuff:). Its high, above 9000', Florence Lake,CA in Summer only. This same place has 25-30 feet of snow in Winter! Our water source all Summer:). GSA1200 is almost hidden on the rock, but I'm there:)....Happy Trails, Randy"Polarbear":usa

Same rock....I camp just below all this beauty in the pine forest. Climb'in the rock is a little spooky at first, but it comes along easier with practice and NO falls. Fall on this and you break things quickly, as granite has NO forgiveness...The GSA1200 is like a tank on bare rock, loves it and just climbs and climbs away:)NO knobbies...:usa

Had another S at the house that a fellow just bought w/24K on a 2004...I put some new rubber on last night and fabricated a new lic bracket for him...was supposed to field test evaluate the bike him as well:dance the best part. He and his brother are recent BMW buyers...they want to ride with their dad when he gets his 90S restored and running soon. He currently rides a Honda 600RR

Anyways, Helen said she would suffer and ride hers with me...:heart

We both have been riding the K12S's a lot lately, so, this was a fun sportier romp around the hills...a short 80 miler breakfast ride...that's all ... bye-bye:wave

What made this one interesting was that I ended up on a one lane bridge between two correctional institutions. There did not appear to be a through road on the other side of the bridge so I had to double back through the first facility...past the corrections officers in the towers...felt a bit awkward. :)

I know, I am violating the rule...well, suggestion. Tried to get a picture on the bridge, but it was so narrow that I could not get back far enough to get the bike in the frame. Of course traffic starts coming. Let's just say I had to hustle.

That pic does not do the corner justice, you can see on the edge of the pic, the wall of a tunnel, one lane, with a bend in it, if you are on the r h side of the road coming out of the tunnel, you will NOT make this turn, unless you are a trials rider.

I have not been to the far coast, but done Rockies a few times, but I know several people that have been up and down the left coast and then did Europe, all agree that is is MUCH tighter there.

Having viewed many videos put out by someone on one of the forums (this one as well), what I noticed were the vast plains between mountain ranges out west.

There was none of the tight valleys with peaks and valleys offering steep mountainsides for the roads to built on.

Differences in topography which is why there is very little need for switchbacks, if any. The roads are far more open based on what I've seen. For example, your Ebbetts Pass road video peaks at 8730 feet, yet you're not having to climb up to it over a short distance. It was so flat...like riding a plateau...and no high peaks on either side of it.

What I noticed was the lack of any centerline pavement markings.

Here in New York, they'd throw a fit if we don't get some kind of centerline markings painted within a day or two of paving...

Can't have a center line unless each lane is some minimal width. The road over the pass is about a lane and a half wide. If they put in a center line most vehicles would be either over the line all the time (or off the road).

This is common in California, on both state and county roads.
