Lets give this a try. No Digial need apply. Fire up that scanner and show some of your older bikes. I'll start off with a photo from April, 1976. Me sitting on my 1972 Suzuki GT-750cc, 2-cycle. What a great bike. Watercooled 3 years ahead of the first Goldwing. Wing-a-ding-ding. What was I thinking with that hair???

The 550 was water cooled along with a 380, all were triple two strokes. Yes, water buffalo was their nick name, '72 was the first year and had the "Buck Rodgers" exhaust pipe ends. Along with the teal, there was a purple color. Both pretty unappealing IMHO.
They were powerful, but heavy. stock they would run with the Honda 750's of the day, but the H-2 Kawi's were the king of the hill as far as speed, but were miserable to ride. The Suzuki did many a mile as a touring bike, with windjammer and saddle bags.

Way back in '75 when I was 12 years old. I really liked (not) the chin guard thingy that hooked to the helmet. The straps would slip in the buckles and for about half of a race the thing would just flap up and down and hit me in the face. Safety first ya know!
http://beemertom.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/Bike-pics/11-30-20081-26-39PM0262/428645389_ZQDus-L.jpg
This is about '78-79 when we had switched over to flattrack full time. I loved the speed of dirttrack. And being a skinny little kid In had never been to fond of freezing half to death riding motocross in the winter. After riding motocross thru the winter we had planned on trying a flattrack race on a 1/4 mile track. The first race was a beautiful sunny 80 degree day. I was warm, I got to hit 4th gear, did I mention I was warm, life was good. On the way home from that race I told Dad that I loved dirttrack and wasn't interested in ever riding motocross again. And I didn't.
In three years time the bike, gear, and helmet had improved considerably. This was a Rob Muzzy built Yamaha 250 with a trackmaster frame. Very fast, did I mention I liked fast! ;) This was the same year that at the AMA nationals in Wichita KN I earned 7th in the nation. That was pretty good considering I was riding with a broken hand and a sick motor that I was trying to nurse to the end of the race.

This is a 1978 Suzuki 550 L. This was my very first new bike, though several months later I would trade it in for my first new BMW. And so it began... I believe this was the first motorcyle to use a digital readout in its instrument cluster. It was a digital gear indicator. I remember on several ocassions, someone wanted me to turn on the key to show them what the digital readout looked like. You can also tell by the photo that this was the beginning of me adding farkles to my bikes. The after market windshield, the amber fog lights on my crash bars, the sissy bar and on and on.

Taken in the spring of 1977. Dual Sportin' old school on a 1974 Honda XL175. As some of you probably know, they were available in any color, as long as it was orange! We bough it from a bike mechanic the winter before the shot was taken. I spent most of the time in his garage circling his Guzzi whiile my father dickered with him. The Guzzi he had seemed like the longest motorcycle I had ever seen. That little Honda was a great bike for me at that time. I'm a full 14 years-old here.

I had one of those too. Great bike; cheap, simple (about 3 moving parts) and as rugged as an AK47.

Summer of 88 or 89, I'm not sure. My 1987 Suzuki 1400cc Intruder. My last non BMW motorcycle. I rode this bike for 8 years as I was busy raising my son and did not ride far. Mostly to work and some weekends.
Yah gotta love the serious biker dude attitude.

I bought the exact same bike in April of 81. same color and same fairing. 6 months later I traded it back in for a 82 Seca 750.
Seca was shaft drive no?
My next bike after this was a 74 R90/6 my first Beemer.
Can't find any pictures as I lost thousands of images in the 2006 flood here.

:clap Yeah, I found some more old photo's. This photo was taken in 1979 I believe. This is my 500 Custom though I forget the year of the bike. Mid to late 70's Im guessing. In the back ground is my 77 Chrysler Cordoba with Corenthian Leather. What a piece of crap that car was.
I think you meant Corinthian Leather, as a search for Corenthian Leather in Google told me. I remember the Ricardo Montalban Chrysler commercials well.
“Corinthian leather” was a meaningless term invented for the purpose, but has since come to designate leather with a vinyl surface treatment that requires little care"
"The director and advertising executives loved the way the actor Ricardo Montalban pronounced “Corinthian”, and it did not bother them at all that there was no such thing as Corinthian leather. "
And you called your car a piece of crap? :D

That's me on the left with the ice cold PBR. This was taken around 1979 in the married student ghetto (Pammel Court) at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. The bike is an original 1952 Panhead Harley with factory sidecar (first year of the foot shift Harleys). Notice the middle bike's seat. It was a slab of chromed steel with no padding, owned and ridden by my buddy who was known simply as "Roach". The third bike is a 1978 Superglide ridden by my brother in law. The foxy chick is my wife (now of 38 years marriage and still a fox).
We had a ton of fun back then and it's a miracle I am still alive. Much wiser and more sedate now (hey... I'm now a BMW guy..).

I guess the (earlier post) Yam 650 twin was too sedate, so I traded up (?) for a 650 Turbo Seca.
And the 650 Turbo lead to the FJ1200. The FJ died in a crash (with a friend on board, broken collarbone) and I didn't ride for well over 15+ years after that. Not because of the crash, but work & family. But I did come back, this time to a K bike.

My first bike was a Duc 250 Scrambler, and I also wish I had kept it. It gave me many happy miles, although not always trouble free, exploring the back woods of Northern Michigan. I later traded it for a 305 Honda Scrambler (previous post) that also provided many miles of enjoyment.

I bought this bike new in June of 1968. Had a blast racing AFM at Vaca Valley Raceway just before Sears Point opened. Note the homemade cafe seat!

At the last race of the season, I fell down, and the bike caught fire. Of course insurance doesn't cover that sort of thing, so it was the end of my budding racing career.

A few years ago, I found a basket case on eBay. I had great fun doing the restoration.http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q125/JohnTena/027_24A.jpg

WOW what a great post!!! That brings the memories flooding back. When I was a Kid growing up in Penna., a friend of mine had a bike just like yours. His was a Bultaco Metrella MK II Road Racer. If my memory is correct the kick start was on the left side and kicked forward. It looked strange, but would out run my 1970 350 Honda. Thanks for posting....

You're close. The kick start is indeed on the left side, facing forward. But it kicks backward, in the usual way. Here:

When I was competing, the main rival was the Suzuki X6, the 250cc two-stroke twin with a 6-speed transmission. The Suzuki was tops in acceleration, but the 'taco could brake and handle much better. I have to say that those X6s were much more reliable, too.

My wife and I on our wedding day, October 13, 1983, on our brand new 1982 leftover Suzuki GS850L. Fortunately, I still have both (the babe, and the bike!); added 4 kids, some gray thinning hair, a mortgage, and ........

In the 60s I was stationed at Wurtsmith AFB, Oscoda Michigan. I rode mostly off-road preferring the fire trails to the pavement. There was on hill on a larger fire road named Bultaco Hill by the locals.
The reason, a Bultaco was the only bike that had ever made it to the top without the rider getting off and pushing it. Me and my 305 Honda Scrambler could not even hope to make it.

This is the only surviving picture of my 1974 Rickman Honda that I built from scratch! I had the fairing off that day for some reason visiting a friend that took the photo.
I had a full house Yoshimura Road Race Engine on the street with many Honda CR Racing parts.
Oh! to have that bike today although I don't fold up like that anymore!

You could never beat Rickman and ANY engine , they had terrific frames.
My buddy in the picture of mine had a Montessa VR, Super Bike.

We got a new scanner about a year ago, and I finally screwed up the courage to try it out. It didn't fight me too much, and now we're having fun digitizing a bunch of old pictures.
Here's one taken on the Going to the Sun Highway, on a shake down run, after Dave Anderson, of Anderwerks, rebuilt and modified the engine and transmission on my RS:

I was obviously more of an optimist in those days, touring with just a tank bag.

Back around 1977-8 I was a spectator at Mossport Raceway in Ontario Canada and they brought out the Honda 250 six cylinder for a vintage race.
To hear this bike warming up in the pitts and running at speed around the track was a sound I will never forget!

Spring 1987. me posing with my first bike (on the right) and the 79 T140E Bonneville i'd just brought home.
that first Triumph (a T120, i think) was the realization of a life-long dream to own one. i bought it for 250.00! that winter, it melted when my house burned down. everyone who showed up at the fire (i was away) was so concerned that my roomie might be inside the burning structure- (he wasn't) that they were too preoccupied to simply roll my bike away from the house! turns out it had been wrecked badly and was cobbled back together. all the bondo popped out of the lousy weld job in the heat of the fire. that frame had about an inch of bow in it. always seemed a bit "loose", but i rode it like i stole it. at 75 MPH it vibrated so badly i could barely see! that 650 motor was strong like bull however, & the thing always fired right up.
the 79, i kept until this past November. rode the heck out of it! it was also super reliable- i wouldn't have hesitated to get on it and go anywhere. i eventually DID lose that sissy bar- a stock Triumph item.
