This is my first BMW. I've been riding for over 30 years and I thought it was time for me to give a BMW a try. I've just purchased a 2010 R1200R. Great bike. I've come full circle in my life and now I'm back to a naked sport tourer. Today I installed a lead directly to the battery for my Gerbing liner. When I reconnected the battery a red battery warning light came on the display. I'm assuming this was a result of disconnecting the battery. How do I turn it off? Thanks.

Frank,

Did you start the engine? The light comes on with the key until you start the engine - that's normal. I've disconnected and reconnected my battery many times and have never experienced a problem.

BTW - local MOA Chartered club you may want to look into: http://www.njsbmwr.org - next meeting is Weds. There are 3 R1200R owners in the club - always be good to have another.

Don,
Thanks. I'll try to make the meeting. I sent in an application to the chapter last week.

Well, I did the same thing to my R and had no problem with the battery indicator, but did have problems with the on board computer. Had to take it to the dealer to have them reset the system with their GT-1 computer. Took 2 minutes.

When I installed the leads for the battery charger on my '08 R12R, I had a similar issue. Just reset the clock and started the engine and all problems went away.
