A routine valve adjust reveals the right chain showing about 10mm of slack. Left chain is tight. Pulled the cam chain tensioner and it is good. Bike runs well but you can hear what appears to be a short interval of chain slap on engine deceleration. The bike has 50K miles. Is this normal for a bike with these miles? Is this a big deal? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

It could be a major problem.
Not knowing how you measured the 10mm slack, I would suggest taking it to a dealer for their opinion.
But if there's enough slack it could jump a tooth and cause a piston to hit a valve. A bent valve is bad enough but if you're at speed on the highway it could break a valve head off and do some serious damage.

drop the tensioner for the right side the spring should be keeping things tight, you may just need a new tensioner spring.

Many thanks for the guidance. Given the miles on the bike and the apparent ease of the job, I'll be replacing both cam chain tensioners.
