Hi Everyone,
I just joined the site after putting down a deposit on a 2010 RT. My husband, DWestly, has been a member for a while, but I am new to the world of BMWs. I have been riding for 11 years, am a MSF RiderCoach and love to ride. In addition to the RT, I have a 2009 Honda CBR1000RR for spirited riding, a 2006 Honda CBR600RR for track days and a 1990 Honda GB500, which is now a collector's bike. I have been cross-country twice on my 2006 Honda VFR, which is now up for sale, but it is now time for some "creature comforts" on a bike, which the RT is going to be perfect!! I look forward to "meeting" everyone and becoming an active part of the forum.

Welcome aboard. With so much experience between you and DWestly, I'm certain to learn something new. Quite the roster of rides -- maybe you could post some pictures of your rides -- and especially the new RT when you take delivery.

I think you're going to love that RT -- the more I ride mine the better it gets. A very comfortable ride in a bike that feels and handles like a middleweight.

Thanks for the welcome!! Will post photos of the bikes in a few days. I ordered the low suspension and low seat on the RT, so I can handle it better. I rode a 2003 GoldWing for three years, and although I rode it well, it was a beast to handle. I am looking forward to getting the RT and getting in some serious miles on it!

Having ridden a gold wing myself and an assortment of HDs, I really grew to appreciate the difference a few hundred pounds makes in handling ease when compared to the RT's weight -- I go places (and on surfaces) I'd never have tried on the heavy-weight bikes.

Welcome from Wisconsin. Hope you can visit the forum often.
I've been riding an RT1200 since 2008. I can't begin to say how much I appreciate the comfort and performance of it. It has been trouble free for 45,000 miles. I'm certain you will be very satisfied with your choice.

Welcome. Very glad to have you here. Sounds like you like to ride: A Lot!!! :thumb

If you haven't done so already, check out a Chartered Club in your area. Good folks who like to ride, and perhaps stop to eat every now and then. :wave

Thanks. It is nice to know there are other women riders on the RT. We met a great couple on a pair of matching RTs at the Women's International Motorcycling Conference in Keystone, CO last August. She loved her RT as well.

Hi RTGirl,

My daughter and I were at the conference in CO also and I bet we met the same couple you mention here. Were they from Arizona?
I'm still a lurker here but enjoy the people and posts. I joined under my DH's name and can't figure out how to join under mine as a co-member so I use his...:p

Welcome!

Glad to have you on board! What a great way to start a new year - with a new bike! I'm sure you will have a great time here on the forum, as well as reading the Owners News and attending our events. If you want to give that new RT a good shakedown ride, come out to Redmond, OR in July to our International Rally!

Thanks for the invite Greg. Unfortunately we are already scheduled to be in New Mexico in June. So I must work in July to support my motorcycle addiction:)

I started in mid '80s on 440 Kawasaki. Moved to BMW R65 in 1992 and been on BMWs ever since. Now ride R1200R 2008 which I found used with 1400 miles on it. Glad to see younger riders coming onboard and hope to see you at a rally sometime.

My bike has been lowered, boots raised, seat lowered, handlebars backed up and I just leg over and take off! Wonderful feeling. Recently added moto lights to front and back for visibility.

Pray first, then ride and enjoy!:dance

At almost 50, I will take the younger rider comment any day:groovy!! I know what it is like to be vertically challenged and trying to find a bike that fits. Thank goodness BMW now makes most of its bikes with lowered frames. I can't wait to get my bike and start getting some miles on it.

We were traveling when I posted the last comment from DucDoug's computer!! In fact we were getting ready to do a track day at JenningsGP in northern Florida.
