Here in "fly over" country it is predicted to be forty degrees today and sunny! Yep, right here in River City, uh, Des Moines that is.... I am going to fire up ol' 78 and go for a short but careful ride, with an emphasis on "careful" as the roads are likely either sand covered or slick with ice/snow. But, ride I will! What about you? Where do you live and will you ride today? Heck, perhaps you ride everyday!

Here in Delaware we should also see temps in the 40's. Good enough for me!
We have quite a bit of salt out there so we will stick to the major roadways but I'm determined to go out for a short ride.

Would it count if I rode to the end of the lane, looked at the highway and turned around?
Might do that. But the ice is still on the pond and I don't think we will make 40 today.

Bud, it would count! Even if you only rode a foot or three it would count. A short ride is still....a ride!

I'm a year-rounder here in south Georgia. Had a breakfast run planned for this morning but the earlier than expected cold rain got the best of us. It's supposed to be sunny and high near 70° tomorrow so a ride is definitely in the cards!

I'm in Central Illinois and it is a foggy 28. I am heading out this afternoon for a few hours once I get home from son's basketball game. Hopefully, my finger will fit in the glove. This will be the first time I go riding after letting the snowblower eat the tip of a finger.

I did a couple of hours today (near Boston) and it's the first I've been out in 7 or 8 weeks. I was surprised how unfamiliar it felt for the first hour, and it didn't help that the suspension was way too stiff without the ~80 pounds of luggage I usually carry. The frost-heaved roads didn't help with that.

long, uphill driveway+northern exposure+record snowfalls+ two brief periods of 32+ degree temps like today+ return of sub zero days on end=ICE too much to ever get back into the garage. Going out no problemo, coming back not going to happen without studs on the tires.
I saw a goldwing on 35W Thursday night.
It is just not fair.
Where do you buy studs?

Well Dale, looks like I will not be riding either! Couldn't get the bike to start. It needs some heat to warm the ol' engine, which I do not have available in my garage. Oh well, I tried and the weather is nice enough.

P.S. I saw a Harley earlier in the winter on the interstate and it was COLD but the roads were dry. Rider was welll wrapped. Must of been in the single digits.

Well...the doctor told me I had a touch of pneumonia last week and I have been INSIDE feeling like I live in Minnesota or something...first the 20 degree nasty weather for a week ..then I get sick the next....GRRRR!
I understand a little better the pain of not riding when others are...especially when 4 of the guys just motored up about an hour ago to come inside and taunt me:stick...
Sunny and 50ish...and I am looking out the window:cry

38d F. The roads are wet with salt, the long North-facing driveway has 3" of snow on it.
I'm just a wuss.

We finally had enough evaporation of snow runoff, the black ice was almost nonexistent. Went and ran some lengthy errands on the RT today. It got up into 40's - temps drop like a rock when the sun goes down, though.
Tomorrow we have the first of a series of storms coming from Pacific - several feet of snow expected in Sierra's.
Gotta take these windows of opportunity as they appear!

My goal is to ride every month of the year even though I live in the Twin City Minnesota area. A ride, as defined by me for this goal, is 25 mile minimum. While i would have liked to have claimed January yesterday or even today, I am without a windscreen until Tuesday (don't ask). So I hope we have another warming in the next two weeks.
Does salt really hurt a bike? Why don't we care about what it does to our cars?

I rode 11 miles today.
It wasn't even that cold.

Yesterday was sunny, very light wind, 64 degrees. Rode about 80 mi. on my K75.
Today was few high clouds, 65 degrees. Got my little Yamaha out and rode about 35 mi. during the 2nd. half of that *&%$@# Cowboys game. A good ride makes anything look a little better.
Minnesota might have a better football team, but Texas has better riding weather!

I know it's not good for them, but I woke up both my rides, and took them to the driveway where I cleared some of the northern black ice. The sound was very good for me, and got be to looking for a few farkles in the many many aerostich and other publications.
I kicked over the KLX 110 about a twenty times, but it's been sleeping in the barn with no heat under a tarp and would not start. Strange though, it usually starts up for some winter time fun. I left a oil heater on for next weekend's try...

After very cold temperatures since the blizzard of 09 in Virginia I rode to Mortons last Thursday for a recall on my GS and on to work in Strasburg and then home to Harrisonburg (250 miles total). Sure felt good!

The Chinook winds (warm and strong) blow through here periodically, giving us a respite from the ice and snow. This weekend, we went to our local Honda-Kawasaki dealer and the wife test rode a couple bikes. I went for a long 'battery charging' ride on the viffer yesterday along the river and over the hills to Eden and back. Clear, sunny, about 50ish degrees, and dry pavement (a lot of loose stuff on it, but plenty of room to open it up and run). Exhilarating:thumb
