2010 Frozen Butt Tour

Well! we are almost there. The Frozen Butt Tour :nyah(Nothing to do with Iron Butt)

The rooms are reserved. The riders have prepped their bikes and the gear (All the gear they have to have) is purchased. One of them (Steve Becraft) is on his way across Canada as we speak. He is already in Thunder Bay. We are all meeting in Baie-Comeau on the 29th and leaving for Goose Bay on the 1st of February.

We will be on the Trans Labrador Hwy for 8 days and 7 nights. We will travel the 2200 kms of Ice hwy that is the TLH. Screw Jesse James and his 150 miles of Ice Hwy! Our gys! Us! Are THE REAL THING! First night out will be spent at manic 5 Power dam in Northern Quebec (260 Kms out of Baie-Comeau) 2nd night will be in Labrador City (248 kms after Manic 5) 3rd night in Churchill Falls Labrador (250 kms after Labrador City) 4th night Goose Bay Labrador (285 kms after Churchill Falls) We will take a day of rest in Goose Bay and then reverse the machine and head back to Baie-Comeau where we will celebrate the fact that all of us (Hopefully) will have become the first riders to conquer the Labrador Hwy as a group in winter. I am told that the temperatures are expected to drop around what I experienced when I was there by myself; around the -60 C mark.

I have had a few people mailing me asking me to reserve their seats for the 2011 Frozen Butt Tour. Even though they know I am charging $5000 a head they wanted to give me their money right away. I have to wait and see how the 2010 (First one) will go. If all goes well the 2011 will be a go. Out of ten riders’ maximum, 3 seats are not taken.
This will be The tour! This is not for your average fair weather rider and sure is not for the faint of heart. This WILL BE THE HARDEST RIFE THESE RIDERS WILL HAVE EVER BEEN ON. And they know it. I feel humbled and privileged to be trusted by these men. There is NO room for mistake on this trip. It will not only be about seeing one if not the most beautiful place in North America, but to see it in winter, on a bike in conditions that can and will if given a chance kill you in 3 minutes.
The experience these riders have range from a veteran 25 year plus experience rider and an ex ice racer and a career long military arctic pilot to an Arctic survival trainer. These are by no means beginners and they cannot be. They will all post when they can their experiences on my site at and other sites. I am looking forward to get to know these guys when we finally meet in Baie-Comeau where we will spend two days getting to know each other and the bikes. If any of you reading these words know any of the guys who have signed on this trek to be guided by me and go through what very few will be able to say they have gone through, please sign on and give them some cheers. I am psyched with this. I am gung-ho like crazy to be able to share this and live through this with them.
So again! If all goes well and no one gets seriously hurt or dies, the 2011 will be given a go.

All this started as a ride and was totally unplanned 3 years ago, and I owe everything this turned out to be to all of you. There is not a day that goes by when I am not deeply humbled. We all are a crazy and passionate bunch and I could not come up with any words that can really say or explain how freaking proud and happy I am to be a motorcyclist. Period!

The guys all got here today. So it is started.
But when I got here Steve Had been here for 10 days. His bike was parked outside all alone and it looked lonely. He had already made a whole lot of connections. He has a shop he can use, he has a free pass on a freighter to ship his bike anywhere in the world. He was on first name basis with the girls at the COmfort Inn in Baie-Comeau. If you want a nice place in here close to everything. This is it!!!

He had left Victoria on the 1st of January and got some great weather. The great lakes did not swollow him. So he made it to Quebec two weeks before the Frozen Butt.

It was around -20 in Baie-Comeau today. Winter is showing its nuts freezing nose.

Keith arrived around lunch time. Keith came from Florida. Before anyone says he has problems in his head to leave Florida and come 1500 miles to go ride his bike from Baie-Comeau to Goose Bay in winter, he already knows.

His tires are still new brand new. They are so shiny. I could not resist. and No my tongue did not stick. (At least not that I told them) Soooooo?

Patrice arrived not too long after.
He got here with F800 GS wrapped in Saran Wrap like it was about to be shipped to Japan. Patrice has been riding in the snow since the first snow fell to practice. he trailered it here because the province of Quebec if youy live here you have to get a special permit to ride your bike in winter because the *******s who run this province found a way to make a law that says riding a motorcycle in winter requires to have DOT approved winter tires. No such freaking thing.
Politicians obviously have about as much brains as amibas and as much integrity as lawyers. HMMM! Hold on! same thing!!

Gerry our SV driver rode his GMC 2500 HD Silverado from Stoney Creek Ontario to be with us. He always wanted to to the TLH in winter. When he saw I was organizing this he phoned me and asked if he could witness this. What kind of nut case does this? Like me! He said Good ebough! I am in!

His truck is equipped for adventure living. he turned his crew cab into a sleeper and has all the electronics and power and lights (12 of them) to ride from his house to hell.


We spent a bit of time going to the store and buy last minute crap like WD40, Lube, Mits and Jerry cans.
we parked all the bikes by the hotel and it looked weird and great. people were stopping by just to see. it is freaking cold with the wind and seeing bikes lined up outside in summer is ok. but Here? and now? Nope!

When I got up this morning Frosty would not start. Ihad forgotten that she had been parked in Quebec with the same gas in her tank. Had to jump start her. But she come to life pretty quick after getting plugged in. there was also something ratttling in the muffler. I must have dropped some **** in the muffler or something because she sounded like a carracas. You know these things that mexicans shake in their hands? Hey I am French! What is your excuse?
So I dropped her on her side and wound her up after she got warm. Taa Daaa! she spat that thing out and VOILA!!
case solved. I put her Hyppo hands on and she was ready.
we all sat in and talked about how THIS is going to take place. We also will attempt something. we will reach Goose Bay a day and a half earlier and go ride the new Labrador highway to Cartwright. This way we will bethe first bikes to ride it and we also will become the first in winter as well.
I know! I know! woopteedoo! But to us it means a lot. i talked to the Hotel in Labrador City today and it was -44C. So it looks like we will find what we came looking for. this will also turn the trip into a an almost 3500 kms trip instead of 2200 kms. We will also ride at night. The first riders who had signed up did not want to ride at night, but these guys are more than psych'd about night riding.

Look above! You can see the route from baie-Comeau to Labrador City (1) to Churchill Falls (2)Goose bay (3) to Cartwright (4) to Blanc Sablon (5). And then we will ride it back. Like I said, if Mother Nature allows. If not? part of it!!!
I think this is great because we will have a chance to run into caribou which is one of the most memorable things about my trip there. I had to rearrange the accomodations set up with the hotels because this changes dates a bit.

The weather calls for really cold crap but clear skies. I think we have a shot at this. let's hope Mother Nature will nt decide to stick a suppository up our a...... to give us a wake up call. One thing is for sure. if and only if the **** hits the fan, we will be happy to have the SV.

Tonight we also went for dinner att the Bucaneer restaurant across the street. Beer (For them) great food. We also talked about how this will take place. things like how we will ride. we have to ride together, not leave anyone behind. they are forecasting temperatures close to the -50's, so being left alone is out of the question. If one wants to stop we all stop, whether it is for pictures or taking a dump. even this has to be done right outside like this.
Tomorrow we will check and double check the bikes to make sure they will be ready and the gear too. I also made sure they had all that was required. There is no ****ing around with the gear here. You got what is required, if not you go buy it or you are left behind. As simple as that.

So all in all it looks like I got 4 great guys to share this trip with. Stay tuned. This will be a blast!!
