Have any of you used synthetic lubricant in the rear end, and what was your experience? I have heard that using synthetic in a rear end will cause the seals to leak and then they will have to be replaced.

Hugh,
That is BS. You must have heard it on the Internet. :D
I have been using Mobil-1 75-90 Synthetic in my transmissions and final drives for a collective 200,000 miles with 0 problems.

Why would BMW sell a synthetic gear oil if it ruined the seals? Use the synthetic and dont worry about your seals.

Ditto on the synthetics. I run it both in the rear end and tranny. Mobile 1 in the engine also. I have for over 70K miles. I've run synthetics in my cars, my truck (starting at 180K miles) my tractor, lawn mower, hell, I pour it on my cereal every morning. Not one failure, leaky seal, anything! Don't be skeer'd. It works

Pouring it on your cereal is definately a rear end lubricant.
