.... need something that is ride worthy for the Beemer,

Just purchased an 09 GS Adventure. I like the side cases but they are bit imposing for day riding. I like riding the bike naked.. sans panniers but with my riding gear!!

What are others using for a soft tail bag on the adventure? I am looking for something to carry my day trip stuff without the big metal boxes. Something that fits and is weather tough would be great.

Thanks for the ideas.

Not an adventure but same difference as far as the topic goes. I don't have too many pics of it because i use a hard Pelican case now.

Tourmaster. I got it from Motorcycle superstore for under $100 if I recall. Not rain proof but it comes with a cover that is.

Al Jesse makes a slim box:). Its called his "Pizza Box" and I bought one with much happiness. Its a thinner option to the bulkier high tail boxes. I love it. Pricey, YES, but a worthy addition to a GSA:). I added "diamind plate" to its top, so I can add gear as needed on top, but the box carries plenty all alone. Go to his web sight for a look see. 400$ for the box and another 175$ for a quick mount/ disconnect unit that makes the box a quick on/off thing:). YEP, its very pricey but nothing better I've seen. I just received one of these, a Giantloop Great Basin. I have Jesse's on my F800GS, but want something lighter for dirt rides and shorter trips. Right now it is in the garage lashed to my R1200R. Since it moves so easily from bike to bike, I can now take my naked bike a little farther. I am considering a ride on it to the national in Redmond.

It is quite well made, and holds 50 Litres of stuff. They also make a smaller one.

I would look at the Aerostich website and they normally have a variety of tail packs. I use the BMW tail pack made for the rear rack on the standard GS. I have a GSA but have a standard GS luggage rack on the back. Plenty of room and has not leaked in rain. Goes on and off in seconds.

I use a Touratech rear tail bag that contains my tire repair/inflation kits, and tools. This, combined with my Touratech tank bag provides room for my needs on a short day trip. Otherwise, the Safari bags stay on and I can travel with the entire house with room to spare.

I use the same as nevada72 -- Daily! I think it is Cortech, but it is perfect for gym back, etc. 2 bungees make it nice to take off and into the house easy.

Thanks for all the feedback. I appreciate the time and pic posts to bring me up to speed

Time for some post christmas shopping to finish off my luggage requirements.

Polarbear--did you use the quick mount or did you come up with some other scheme?

I have the BMW Adventure Cases on my GSA, and I use them for touring or blacktop use. But when I'm heading off road where there's loose gravel, sand, etc, or I'll be doing gravel bottom stream crossings (read into this a good chance of dropping the bike) I'd just as soon not tear them up at over $500 a pop!

I use a Wolfmann Explorer Lite tankbag, but it doesn't have enough room for the tools, first aid kit, windshirt, etc. I like to carry. Like you, I was looking for some sort of a tailbag to carry the essentials I wanted to have when going off road and leaving my side cases back. Out of desperation one day I just strapped on a cordura daypack where I removed my rear seat, and it worked great!

As an added bonus, if I'm riding alone and break down I've got a way of packing out my GPS, camera, tankbag, and all the other stuff I can't lock away anymore because I left my side cases home or back in my tent. And the daypack is light and compact enough to go in the bottom of my side case when I'm touring so I always have it.
