Dear Paul:

Thank you for all of the help that you have provided to me over the years and for all that you give to BMWMOA. I joined about 15 years ago, and can't remember a time when you were not an active part of the club.

I always read the Bench Wrenching articles and find them critical to living with BMW motorcycles. I am not the best mechanic around, believe me on that point. But I do my own maintenance, diagnostics and repairs. Sometimes, I get way over my head. When all else fails, I have sent you emails about a half dozen times over the years. You must get messages in your in-box every day like that. Some people would find it just too much. But every time, you have responded with courteous and critically informative information that helped me muddle my way to correction of the problem.

As I read the forum, I see that you are still out there helping members with similar questions and problems.

Thank you again for continuing to share you wisdom!

Sincerely, Steve Littlefield

I have a 1988 K100LT and a 1992 R100GS and whenever I post a technical question I can count on Paul to have some insight and great suggestion to help me solve the problem. Though I have never met Paul face to face I consider him a real BMW friend. Thanks Paul for the great advice you regularly dispense.;)

+1 also.

I always read your column in the MOA magazine and try to learn as much as possible since I also try to work on my bike as much as I can.

Keep up your excellent work!

Your Bench Wrenching articles and your posts on this forum have given me the confidence to tackle maintenance and repair issues that I would have normally stayed away from. Thanks for taking the time to share your expertise.

you can't know the extra pleasure you've given those of us who don't have the time/expertise/experience and whatever else to enjoy motorcycling and the motorcycling community the way you do. Some of us, besides profiting from your enormous and insightful tech help, live vicariously thru your committment to the sport and to the folks involved. We ride when we can, fix what we can, and dream about how much more we'll do next summer. And we have that inspriation out there that there's a way to be more involved in the whole thing.

So one more heart-felt thanx to you, Sir. You are a gem, and we value you!:thumb

Thank you all for your kind comments. We all start somewhere. And we all need mentors or collaborators. I have had many - Oak Okleshen, Rob Lentini, Mick McKinnon, and Tom Cutter come immediately to mind, among others. And dealerships like Engle Motors, Gina's BMW, Grassroots, Bentonville BMW, Bob's, Morton's, and others are helpful too. And I don't mean just selling stuff. I'm thinking in terms of answering questions willingly and honestly when I ask.

A study of the history of BMW MOA discloses that one of the driving forces behind the formation of the club was to better share technical information about these strage German bikes. In the early years technical information and support was less than adequate from the sparse dealer network and the importer.

I think things are much better now - but person to person and member to member support and mentoring is still very important to our enjoyment of the sport. I do what I can, with phone calls, emails, letters, and face-to-face Q&A.

We all know a bit less than somebody, and a bit more than somebody else. So share the knowledge you have, and gather in what you can. We'll all be better for it. If you are not sure, say you aren't sure, and if you say it, be sure you are right. That's all we can ask.

I was fortunate enough to spend some time with Paul & Voni last year at the PA Super Tech weekend.

Two wonderful people that we as a club are very lucky to have.... :thumb

Paul,

Thank you for all you've done over the years for me and your home club in Kansas. We really miss your spring Fix-R-Bike hosted by you and Voni at your home in Lawrence.

I have been a member for only a year and a half, but I feel like Paul is an old friend. I always look forward to his Benchwrenching articles in ON and to his replies on the forum. His knowledge of beemers is outstanding and he can present it where most anyone can understand . I have a Clymer manual for my K75 and sometimes it is worthless. I wish Paul would write a manual. It would be half as big and contain twice as much worthwhile information.

Thanks Paul! I hope to get to meet you and Voni one of these days. Maybe I'll ride down and visit one of these days. After all, you live just down the road from me (in Texas, 500 miles is just down the road).

If you are up in the Panhandle, stop by for K&K.

Paul has been source of sage advice whether wrenching or deciding on a newer bike. I've only been in the club about a year and he's helped out several times in the forum and in PMs.

Many thanks Paul! And I've still got to get down to Big Bend one of these days. It's just that when I get on the bike or in the car, they instinctively turn west or north.

I just read this thread and will lend another voice attesting to Paul G's considerable technical knowledge and his willingness to share it. I've sent emails to Paul looking for advice and always got a helpful reply. Lord knows how many times he's been asked about final drives, spline lubes, ABS, etc. But he's always shown nothing less than a first class temperament and ability.

Wish I could say the same for a certain individual who is acknowledged as a guru on a Meridian Triumph forum. He's got the know-how, that's for sure. But his harsh manner with those looking for technical info has alienated more than a few forum members. He could definitely learn a lot from Paul's attitude
