Does anyone have any experience with mounting this on a R1100RS?

Do you have a rear rack on your bike? if so it should be a pretty easy to mount the case...

The mount itself looks like a GIVI, but the pieces that attach it to the bike don't look the same.
Normally, you have to get the RT tail rack mounting parts (not the whole rack) if you currently only have the standard RS grab bar. You have to cut/drill two holes in the back of the tail piece to mount two vertical supports for the rear of the RT rack. Otherwise the back of the top box is unsuspended. The Givi extends those vertical supports for their rack.

I have I thought was a standard rear rack, could I assume this would accomodate most of these universal trunk fittings. I'm assuming this rack is for the BMW trunk to clip into to.

You are correct ,sir. I have a '94 RS with that rear rack and I run the BMW top case that goes with it. It is the rear rack for the R1100RT. The picture shows you have general instructions to mount the trunk. Iit may/will take a certain amount of drilling/fabbing to make it fit. You may be able to position the trunk where You will not have to do any drilling or cutting. Good luck with your project.
