Hi everyone,
Just looking at the snow flying here in Toronto, Canada.
I'm thinking about all the time I have to clean and get to know my (new to me) 1996 R1100rt.
I took the group's advice and kept the 1977 R100RS as well. Gotta love this mid-life crisis!!
I bought a heated Corbin saddle for the R1100rt and I'm wondering how best to wire it.
The seat has 2 separate plugs, one for rider and one for pillion.Should I go straight from the battery with a fused connection, or is there a spare slot from the fuse box? Should I use a single wire and pigtail to both or 2 wires with 2 fuses?
What size fuse?
There is also a little clunking noise coming from the telelever connection at the front brace & ball joint. Is this a problem area on the older bikes? It has 50,000 miles on the clock. Rides amazing!!

Thanks
Louie

There is a fuse box from Centech that I used to wire accessories when I had an 1150RT. It wires directly to the battery and then you wire the accessories to it. I believe you can get it either switched (ignition must be on) or unswitched. I had it unswitched. I think I got mine here; http://www.cyclegadgets.com/ .

I always wondered what the value of a heated seat is.
In really cold weather (the last few days I left the house at temperatures between 1 and 5 deg. F) it is much more important to keep your body core warm. That's why I wear a Gerbings heated jacket and heated gloves. This morning at 4 deg F I had the thermostat 2/3 open and turned the heat off about a mile before I arrived at work so as to give the battery a bit of a recharge so the bike would start up for the trip home.
I have the Gerbings pants also but have not had to put them on. Instead, I have a pair of lined Olympia pants and wear two layers of tech fabric underneath.
My legs are so well insulated I would not have any advantage from a heated seat.
My advice: If you really want heat and use your battery power wisely, heat up your clothes, not your seat. Likewise, in really cold weather I won't use the heated grips. The gerbings gloves work well, especially with the Hippohands.
YMMV
Stay Warm!

I've heard two positions on heated seats. One view is your ass doesn't get cold because you are sitting on it. The other view is from people who have heated seats and who say it makes them feel warm all over.

I don't think I would use a heated seat. my butt doesn't get cold. I wear Gerbings gloves and jacket liner and I don't use my heated grips...

Well, the heated seat does in fact warm your body.

When blood flows through your hot buns, the warmth courtesy of the heated seat, said blood picks up heat and circulates it through your body. Unless your dead. Then it won't work.

Those that don't have a heated seat won't beleive it,
Those that have a heated seat know what I speak of.

All arguments are flawed because whether or not my butt needs to be warm is only important to me.

Aside from that, I think most of us would agree that if you're wearing heated clothing a hot seat isn't important. But, what if you aren't?

A cold seat is a hard seat; warming it greatly increases it's ability to mold to you.

I have an Alaskan Butt pad and my seat is always comfortable. I wear a Gerbing heated jacket liner and heated gloves and find myself overheated even when riding in 20 degrees Farenheit. I have a spare heated seat I picked up but never wired it to the bike. Never seemed to be a problem but I do not have much of a butt to begin with.:laugh

Thanks everyone,
I didn't mean to cause a "heated " debate. haha.
The seat is wider and more comfortable than the stock one. Looks a lot better as well.
I bought it used at a great price so I thought I might as well wire it up even if I only use it occasionally. If I bought it new, I don't know wether I would have spent the extra cash for heat..
