Hey, thought I would place another ride report via video... entitled "Gourmet Dinner". You'll see why at the end :p.

This video isn't as hefty as the Boreas Pass one. Will see turkeys, deer, some history, and a very scenic whitewater stream (North Fork of the South Platte SW of Denver) alongside much of the vid. Gold medal trout. Many cool rocks. I get soaked too. Piano accompaniment.

As you can see from the map below, I took the long way to dinner. Don't we end up doing that often with our BMW bikes?

You've done it again. How about a feature length film next? I could sit and watch your videos forever. And especially this weekend, when we're supposed to have wind and rain. Great shooting. Is there public access for fishing to the portions of the river you were filming? Seems like every road in Colorado is parallel to a river, and every river has trout!
Thanks!

I've fished that stretch of river many times. Bravo for another great video

Thanks everyone. Yes, good fishing in the area. VP Cheney has come by before to put in a line. So nice to ride along a wild stream.

Just a history factoid... May 1996 there was the 11,000 acre Buffalo Creek Forest Fire upstream a few miles (campfire not out). A downpour two months later over the burn area (baked and hardened soil caused runoff) turned the stream you see here into a raging flash flood 25-30 feet higher. Every bridge blown out. Cars and debris snagged in trees above the stream :eek. What a diff versus the footage here.

that next year just might be the first year for a BMW film festival in the seminar hall at Lima. Steve leads by example showing how beautiful our rides are, and in a way, why we ride.

Thanks, Steve, for counseling me on the right kind of camera to buy. Mine is on order. Hope it gets here by the time I ride to Big Easy next week.

By the way, how does the camera react to the 'I'm gonna get wet' part of the shooting? And I want to know about what editor you use.

Another fine example of your video skills!!:thumb :thumb Keep 'm comming :clap
I was in Colorado for the first time this year and certain areas reminded me a lot of Switzerland and Northern Italy where I lived for a few years. I am already planning for next year to get back there as it is a beautifull part of the US.

I think I'm going to save that clip and play it when it gets well below zero here this winter to remind me of the great roads I've yet to ride.

Nice work, I've read about roads built on railroad beds, and how great they can be to travel.

Jim,

The helmet cam comes in a small rugged container and it is this thing you velcro to the helmet, or to the bike, and rotate the camera within (you know, for tilted riders :p).

Actually, an advantage of the helmet cam is it can function OK in inclement weather... the waterproof container, and the camcorder in a waterproof tank bag taking the video feed. The mount I optionally use from sportbikecam.com connecting to the gas cap ring, would have the camcorder hanging out in the wet. Not good!

There are fancy editors out there. I find the free Microsoft Movie Maker software available at Microsoft.com to offer all I'm looking for and more to fetch, edit, and make a movie. Simple to use too.

Steve

PS. Thanks for the comments everyone. It is snowing like crazy at the moment and it is nice to replay. Have other vids and can post over time. I have a lot of fun on the R1100S too :brow.

Why do I think those are ones where you want to fuzz-out the speedo?

Thanks for what you're doing!

Gee.... EXCELLENT video. Thank you.

"...Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."

I agree with what has been said, the rally needs to have a 'best video' division. They have the computers.

I really like these video clips. They retain their clarity and the scenery is just breathtaking.

Steve - please tell me what you used for background music on this video. I like your choice of music!!! Thanks

Thanks again Steve, well done. I really liked the amount of traffic you had to deal with :brow

Yes, GS; most other bikes don't do well going through potholes, like those. :D

Thanks everyone! Nice to revisit this ride... watched the vid again. This one was my first attempt at a helmet cam and I placed the cam on top of the helmet. Thus it appears I'm 7' tall! :)

The track accompanying the video is Peter Kater's "Dusk" found on his "1983-1990 Collection". He collaborates with Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai. If interested, scanned the library here and found another recording with these two artists accompanying the ride...

Thanks for the video sfarson, we need to nominate you for the Academy Award...fabulous scenery. Did you have the cam on your helmet or on a mount for this one? Very steady indeed.
