I would like to hear your thoughts on the use of this system on a R1150R.

1. sound-quality and loudness
2. performance difference noticeable from seat of the pants
3. any other comments such as tuning

THANKS in Advance!

Almost any aftermarket exhaust will be louder than stock. I've had Two Brothers - loudest and worst quality, Remus - good deep mellow sound, and Ztechnik - loud but not offensive. I have it off now repacking it. Burns out packing about 20,000 miles. I would look seriously at a Staintune because it has baffles and never needs repacking.

ZTech tells you that their mufflers must be repacked every xx,xxx miles (i don't know the service interval on that)- that's one of the reasons i went with a Laser system (exh & chip) on my 11S.
from those i have heard, they sound pretty sweet.
don't expect much in the way of a performance change; it will only sound like the bike is faster. "might" induce or exacerbate a surging condition, as by opening up the exhaust you are effectively leaning out the intake a bit. best is to plan on either a new chip to coordinate with the exhaust change (except that Ztech does not offer a chip themselves), or to go with a Techlusion or similar mapping system.

I put the Z-tech on a R1100RT. Not too loud, but gave the bike the sound of a little more authority. You pick up a good weight loss with the removal of the cat. I thought I noticed a slight boost in roll on power that showed up in passing situations.

I bought my zT exhaust at the WV rally years ago when my bike was under warranty ('01 1150GS). Selling point was it was approved to keep the bike under warranty.

What I like: Saved lots of weight. Bike ran cooler. Bike accelerated loaded two up for camping like it did one up with no gear.

Hated the sound for a week or so. Got used to it, like it most of the time. On small streets in small towns I notice pedestrians looking for me 'cause they hear me first.

Use to repack at regular intervals - but keep extending that out. 20,000 miles for last one and it looked perfect when pulled out the old stuff. Didn't know I had to repack until after I bought it - probably would not have bought it.

I love their windscreen.

I dont know the BMW stock exhaust I bought my bike already with ZTechnik installed.
Ztechnic exhaust sounds great and plus make the bike lighter.

Installed the Ztechnik on my 1998 r1100gs a few years back and have no regrets for the price I paid. After installing it, I noticed the GS was very easy to pull a wheelie in 1st or 2nd gear. It's also alot of fun to pass my HD buddie with a ROAR and not a whoosh. I think I might be using more gas because I tend to blip the gas more and also do more down shifting so I can listen to that pipe do it's business. The paperwork I got with mine states it nevers needs repacking. My came with a baffle that really quites it down. Now and then I stick it in but will pull it out within a day or so. Yes it does cause the bike to idle a little rough but that just gives me another excuse to blip that throttle again. The fun factor of any aftermarket pipe is worth it for me. :clap
