New owner, less than 50 miles since purchasing. Went for a short ride, pulling into my driveway it died. Won't start. I see weak spark but zero fuel smell. My Clymer manual says something about weak spark may be a fuel delivery issue ???The fuel pump, strainer and filter were recently changed. I can here the pump initialize when I turn the key. Inst panel lights up then everything but the Battery light goes away which maybe normal but, I don't remember seeing it before.
Any words of advice before going to a dealer ? Thanks

Does the engine turn over? If it won't turn over, you have the symptoms of a bad battery. If there's not enough juice, the fuel pump won't push gas. If you're running the original battery, it's probably ready for replacement.

It turns over, I failed to mention also the battery and alternator were also recently changed by the previous owner.

A weak spark (or no spark) could indicate that the Hall sensor has failed. I used to own a R1200C and although it doesn't happen that often, I have read where the Hall sensors have failed on some bikes. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I have heard of one person having a similar problem. After he replaced his fuel filter, one of the hoses came off. Of course, that's in the tank.

Sounds to me like the PO had a problem, changed out everything he could think of to fix it, and sold the bike when that didnt work. I would be going over everything the guy did to see if it was done right. Sudden engine cut out can be the Hall sensor. Usually the wiring near the sensor.

I'm capable so I hate to pay the dealer if I don't have to.
Thanks for the info.

Ha, Ya just filled up but, that is something I would do. Just cranked it for 20 seconds or so and then pulled the left main plug, dry as a bone. Also looked like the spark was a little stronger than the right plug I checked yesterday .... maybe it's just darker outside, lol. I think I'll siphon it out and check the lines inside the tank. Went to the dealer to ask ? .... all they want to do is run the trouble codes for $70. Probably where i'll end up tho .....
Talked to the PO, he said the pump was sqeeling so he changed it and never had any charging issues just changed the belt because it was old, he never chabged the alt as I had thought. Is there any chance the belt can come in contact with the Hall Sensor wiring ?

Koinz may have hit the nail on the head. Since one of the plugs was dry after cranking, a hose could have come off in the tank where it attaches to the fuel pump. Could also be a clogged or bad fuel injector. Good luck!

one other thing.

check the fuel pump connector. It's on the right side under the cover. I have seen them not pushed in all the way.

don't ask me how I know :)

Are you sure the initializing noise you hear is the fuel pump. It could be the ABS unit.

I hear what sounds like a pump running for a few seconds but, your right it could be the abs. I have unplugged and reseated the quik disconnects.

Just to be clear, it's the electrical connector for the fuel pump, not the fuel line quick disconnects.

The electrical connector is under the cover behind (towards the rear) where the fuel disconnects are. (if that makes sense).
