I dropped my 95 RS on my gravel driveway (don't ask) and it scarred up the right side head guard. They're the plastic BMW ones and I can't say I'm impressed with their protection. Any advise for replacements for these?

I think the guards are meant to protect the valve covers and are throw-away parts if you use them.

Hopefully your valve covers are OK but I can see how big gravel might still get past the protection.

Unless the valve cover guard is broken thru, i'd just sand it down and hit it with some bumper spray paint. It's primary purpose is to prevent the valve cover from being worn thru and leaking- if it does that, it worked as intended.

Yeah, thought of that... but then I'd have to do both so they match! Guess I'm a little compulsive about symmetry, although no one but me would know!

It did get past them - scratch valve covers but that's it. I can see you're point, but they're a little expensive to throw away after one (and hopefully only) use!

If you think the guards are expensive, price the valve covers.

Abrasive paper and paint are your friends.

Crash bars generally cost as much as your insurance deductible. Since the natural position of your bike is on its side, sooner or later it will end up there. There's over a hundred different ways to drop a bike, so its just a matter of time before you get to remember how "Skert" picks up her bike. JON

I just put a set of the BMW plastic ones on my R1150R. I had a set on my previous R, and unfortunately, had an off to test them. Yes it roughed them up, but saved the rocker cover. Just sand paper, and they will do the job again.

Certainly better than nothing.
