Each year some of us roll into the Smokies -- weather permitting -- on a Black Friday run [day after Thanksgiving so this is coming up soon]. We get there by Friday night and roll great roads on Saturday. If you like to ride quick on great roads this is a good time to be in the Smokies. The tourists aren't there and with no
leaves on the trees you can see well ahead through every corner. This year's hotel is a 3 star, 2 meals included, $58 a night. If that is something that might interest you, get in touch off line and I can send you the hotel info. dancindave@aol.com

If ya'll are rollin through the gap, I wouldn't mind stopping in and saying hi. I'm a local, so not too interested in a hotel room. Just a word of warning, interstate 40 from knoxville to asheville is closed due to a rock slide near the state line. Lots of trucks are rolling through the gap right now.

I vacationed there a week ago and didn't know about the I-40 shut-down till I saw the road signs. BIG detour. (If it was always easy, it wouldn't be an adventure.)
Good call on The Dragon. I'd just started my run when I encountered a couple of riders waving people over so an idiot in a semi could take up both lanes and clear the switch-backs. Those riders may have saved lives that day.:bow
Stay alert! Not all of the danger at The Dragon is hype.
