View Full Version : Rt1150 ABS Question
I was recently at Biketoberfest in Daytona. While taking off from getting gas I had very little brakes if any.I realize that the front wheel has to turn so many times for the ABS to work.My question is what if you take off and need to stop quicker than it takes for the ABS to kick in.Almost ran into the back of a car in the gas staion parking lot. Also got the butt burn real bad while driving from Saint pete to Daytona anyone ever tried a gel pack?
Thanks Phil
By the way Biketoberfest was great.

Even before the ABS is on, you have regular brakes. If you have linked power brakes, it takes a few seconds after you start to be activated. You might try to figure out what happened.
Raise the front of your seat to reduce butt burn. A sheepskin also helps. The ultimate answer is a custom seat.

Were you activating one or both brakes? "Self-diagnosis [of the ABS system] is not performed unless both brake levers are in their fully released positions. Only the RESIDUAL BRAKING FUNCTION [no servo] is available until self-diagnosis is completed."
When I first read this section in the Rider's Manual, it struck me as weird, but it has led me to make sure I'm not touching the brakes when switching on the ignition.

If the red light is flashing really fast when you start the bike, you must release the brake and let it flash slowly in order for it to initialize. I have never had a problem with my brakes, even without the servo assist, they are as good or better than most other bikes on the road,

Rembemer also that the ABS is not functioning under 5MPH. :banghead
