The original w/s on my 99 RT has got to go. It measures 14 5/8" at the center. Called my BMW dealer, they want $400+ for a new one. So I'm going with a Cee Bailey.
Here's the problem, I get head buffeting with the stock shield, I want to reduce that effect. I'm 5ft 9", and using the BMW comfort seat. At 65 mph, I get head buffeting, but if I lean forward and lower my head about an inch the buffeting is GREATLY reduced to a comfortable level.
So, would it make sense to order one about 15 5/8" or the closest to that measurement?

I removed the stock windshield on my RT about 120,000 miles ago, and have briefly used since. The buffeting IMHO is caused by the stock windshield design and not the height. I experienced horrible buffeting with stock windshield. I've used a Parabellum and love it....no buffeting.
Since your bike has an adjustable windshield, the height isn't all that important. I go with a stock height on my BMWs with adjustable windshields, since I like to in hot weather or in town, lower the windscreen all the way down for better air flow. When on the highway, I raise the screen to about nose height for best protection from bugs, while still being able to look over the screen.

First things I changed on my 2000RT were the seat, and the windshield. I went with an Aeroflow. I'm 6'2" so I went with the larger one. Have been very happy with it. Any aftermarket screen is an improvement over the stock one.

I got a Cee Bailey for my 2005 RT. I got a +4 inch which was too big. I ended up cutting it several times, and now it is a +1.5 inch. Here's a "how to" if you get one too big and want to custom trim it to size:

I am 6' 4" and went with the C/B 7"over stock. To this I added a Saeng Corp (website found with google ) lamiar flow strip which encircles the wind sheild. This throws the air from the top of the windsheild a few inches higher than normal. With this combination I get virtually no buffetting to my helmet.
