Hey BMW Folks;
I pulled into a gas station and filled up and noticed that the "Trip" indicator would not zero or even advance. Well, what else is new!
Another headache. What I missed noticing was the "Odometer" had also stopped advancing.
It is stuck at 72995 for about the last week.
My gass mileage has gone to pot - "full tank gone/zero mile".
The speedometer and tachometer work correctly.
Has anyone had this problem and what was the repair for it. I didn't see a cable. Therefore it must be electronic. Most likely a bad connection.

IF your speedometer is still working - it's not a connection to the instrument pod.
There is a small gear in the odometer mechanism that likes to fail. No rhyme or reason to why or when, they just do sometimes. The fact that you can't reset these points directly to this problem.
Cure - find a dead pod and steal the parts out of it, or send the pod off to one of the advertisers in the BMW-ON.

Yes that is the problem. I took it apart and found a small clear with a green core gear missing one tooth and the mating orange gear missing one tooth.
Drag out my stack of BMW-ON
Thanks again!

I'll give a big thumbs up to Palo Alto Speedo, in the ON.

Thanks I will look them up.
I have the unit apart so to ship it (short of time ) should be do able.
I will along the same compliment to Spiegler for brake parts. On my K100 which had that sorry rear disc. I sent to Spiegler and got a semi-floating disc. Life was great until the odometer went.
Thanks

Well folks I contacted Palo Alto Speedometer
I received a email from them stating that Yes they can fix my odometer.
Price - $225.00 + tax and freight and 3 weeks
Hatmut Mees stated that the parts are no longer supported by Motometer. He has part available for $115 if I rebuild the unit myself.
That seems a bit high to me.

There was a post on here not two weeks ago where someone had the same problem. One of the replys included a link to a website where the guy sells the plastic gears for $25 each.
Check it out.

Hello Again;
Well I have run into a small problem with doing the gear replacement myself. It looks doable IF! I can get the needle off the shaft. Looks easy, there is a metal "lock" that either pushes, pulls or up/down to unlock the needle. No luck!
Secondly I would ask where to look for the URL. Is it at this site?
Thanks

Well I final bit the bullet and took it to a local Speedometer/Odometer shop.
They claim it will be ready Wednesday and have so far quoted $161.45.
If I had done it myself the only real known to work parts are 115 plus freight and tax.
I will let everyone know if thing work out
$161.45 is better than $250
Thanks!
