Greetings, I was just looking at the discussion on alternator brush replacemernt and have my own question - Has anyone removed their alternator without removing the ABS module and it's lines? ( 1999 1100RT)

It appears that the alternator could come out without having to remove the ABS module and doing the brake bleed. Anyone know for sure??

The bike has 150k miles on it and it is winter so time to look at a rebuild.

I have taken the alternator out of an R1100RS without disturbing the ABS. I did need to remove the Motronic from the front of the battery box, and clip a bunch of wire ties to move bundles out of the way.

I'm not sure doing it this "easy" way is actually any easier, but it can be done - on a RS at least.

Thread bump... as I tend to scraped knuckles and pride

Just removed the non -charging/ new battery draining alternator from a project '97 1100GS...have removed a few from R1150's with much more ease.

Still have not found the "easy" way! Removing the ABS pump would qualify however.

I did not remove the ABS pump ( wish I would have found the alternator issue prior to changing ALL the brake hoses, including one blown out one, a few weeks back or I would have removed the pump...just don't want to go thru the brake bleeding again) I just loosened the mounts and cut a lot of wire ties, did unclip the motoronic and laid it over the frame...now getting the soon to be rebuilt one back in after a few days will be the challenge. I recall having to walk away a few times on the others, then having it finally fall into the space.

Also, every wire casing in, under or near that area was either already missing or crumbled to the touch...lots of heatshrink tape and cable covers to come, I already did some in other areas:banghead

OK, I'm done for the night :clap
