Had my R in for Level One servicing recently and got one of those phone calls from the service guys. You know, the one where they tell you they found something and it's gonna cost more than the original estimate.
Anyway, my new-found problem was a leaky seal on my final drive. I did some searching through the list archives and found that this (leaky seals) seems to be a common ailment among our bikes, although occurances did not seem to happen at a certain time (mine went out at 21,000 miles).
When he called, the service guy said, "$20 in parts but a couple hundred for labor." It ended up being a 2.5 hour job and costing me close to $300 to fix.
What's so complicated about this procedure that it takes 2.5 hours? Is this something I could have done myself? Finally, can I expect this to happen again and is there something related to riding style that exacerbates the situation?
Thanks all.
