09 GS Wheel Question? [Archive]

Has anyone had an issue with the finish coming off the alloy wheels? I washed the wheels today with soap and water and with my fingernail a 1/2 inch area comes right off with little pressure! My bike is only 3 months old and has 5300 miles on it. This coating does not look like what is on the frame and like the wheels on my k12gt. That really disappoints me! Thanks

What finish? A painted finish?

What was the soap you used (S100 is notorious for attacking BMW painted parts)?

It is some type of coating that is on the stock wheels. Only mild soap and water has been used. Thanks

It is some type of coating that is on the stock wheels. Only mild soap and water has been used. ThanksI believe some of the GS rims are painted black, others appear to be plain aluminum (and they eventually do corrode/discolor a bit..)

Can you manage a photo of what we're talking about?

I finally took my bike to BMW of Atlanta today(they are 100mi away) for the 6k service. They are going to replace the wheel. This is the first one they've seen that did that. I guess it is just one of those wierd things that happen. I'm glad BMW is going to replace though. Thanks

Anything I ever had go wrong with any BMW I ever owned was the "first one they've seen that did that". :) :)
