It's raining in fly-over-land and will be snowing one of these days. This caught my enye in a design blog I follow. Looks like it could be a blast.

Simple, elegant design. Should leave the flexible flyer in the flakes.
Wonder if it is available in kit form?

Be sure to get some before and after pictures. You know, a picture of you standing at the top of the hill with the sled proudly displayed in your hands, and then a picture of you in traction as your used-to-be-middle-aged back is healing. :thumb

Elegant yes - simple no.
Notice the plywood is formed into sweeping compound curves. Wet or steam, and bend and restrain until dried.
Paul G. I agree it has elegant lines but would be a devil to craft. Sorry Paul B. does not look like it would come in a kit. Here is, what appears to be, the web page of the designer. http://www.goettedesign.ch/
I translated what the site has to say about the project –
"Lesto" is a new slide, which consists of two molded plywood parts. Through an active and sporty attitude is driving at, "Lesto" a real treat. The shape of the two parts is designed so that the slide has a good shock absorber without spring effect. Due to the broad, sloping towards the inside runners, it is possible, both on hard surfaces as well as in the Powder drive. Suitable materials, the design allows for low production without the need for this loss in the areas of safety, quality or functionality are made. The two claws brakes are operated individually with their hands. They can be used on a challenging substrate also for the steering. In a good-natured terrain, the steering is performed using weight shift. The innovative concept, combined with traditional materials, is a novelty in the field of leisure sports in the winter
Kevin, I said it “caught my eye”. I make no claims about the ability of my body to follow up or my mind or better judgment keeping me from doing so.

P.S.
If or when – I will post the requested pictures

Sweet looking.
Seems like you'd flip right over the front of it if you hit a sufficient bump, though.

Paul, I'll build you one if you'll crate up that new 650 and send it down. We may have to make a few mods to accept a Chief's derriere or get a custom seat, but its doable.:thumb

Looks like fun.
A luthier friend of mine says, get a big tub and some hot plates to heat the water. Uniformly steam the plywood, then gently clamp it into shape.
It just sounds soooo simple. Someday, I'm going to try it.

Yeah, it sounds soooo simple!
First comes the form over which to clamp the plywood. 'Course once you have the form, you could make lots of 'em. Rather than bending plywood, I would think you would want to use individual sheets of good veneer laminated with an epoxy such as West System. Some of those curves are going to really torture the cross grain layers of the plywood. Probably want to cut out the shape beforehand. It does sound like a fun project.

I have a bunch of 5mm Baltic Birch plywood that I scavenged from the dumpster of a furniture company. Perhaps, I've just found a project for that winter quality time in the garage! I might not build the sled, but forming plywood sheet could be interesting.
Yes, winter can be a long time.
