My speedometer is way off (R90/6) and I would like to send it to be repaired. My concern is: how difficult is it to remove and re-attach? I assume there are several wires for the generator light, oil light, neutral light, etc. that will have to be disconnected and then re-attached....or.... are these wires part of a wiring harness. I hope the latter. Please advise and thanks.

Very easy to do.
There are three bolts that must be loosened, holding the pod assembly onto the steel bracket. From the drivers position, they are underneath the pod, closer to the driver. Loosen them enough to slide the assembly up-and-back.
The speedo and tach have a cable coming up from the bottom, loosen the brass nuts (which may or may not have a locknut as well) all the way, and cable will pull out, downward. They are not interchangeable from side to side, btw.
At this point, the only thing holding it is the wire harness, which is a big square-ish rubber plug on the back (towards the front of the bike...!), held in by one screw. Remove that screw, and gently wiggle and pull the rubber square outward. There are 12 little pins that snuggle in, so it may take some wiggling to get them all out.
And there you have it, in your hand, ready to be packed up and sent away......

be sure and use some sort of electrical contact protectant on the pins and corrresponding sockets for the electrical connection

Be very gentle removing the big rubber plug. It is the beginning of the wiring harness. The pins in the harness are aluminum and the receptacles in the pod are stainless. They don't get along too well.
I ruined mine and had to replace the harness. $330. Plus a day of work.
Use dielectric grease on all connections when working on any contact.
Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. The speedometer came off just as easy as you said and is en-route to Palo Alto as I type.
