Gear Oil?

My 2002 1150RT specifies 75/140w synthetic gear oil. Are there other brands other than BMW that would be good for my bike?

Very carefully check the spec. Last I looked it said 90wt - with 80w90 an acceptable substitute in both the final drive and the transmission, BUT, with 75w140 as an acceptable substitute in the transmission but not in the final drive.

The critical thing is not the brand though. It needs to meet the viscosity spec. and have a GL5 rating. GL4 is not sufficient.

There are several good brands that carry the GL5 rating. My favorite is Castrol but I've used others, including Spectro, Honda, Red Line and Sta-Lube.
