Travelling on my '06 RT from Phoenix to Charlotte, the other morning in Jackson, MS it was a little chilly. My left saddle bag has always had very stiff latch mechanism and on this auspicious morning while lifting the flipper lever to open box, there was a "snap" and a new found freedom in the movement of the lever. I was then prevented from removing and using my heated vest. I have removed the bottom screws, to no avail, the box is still latched. I don't see how the box can be opened...has anyone experienced this?

Sometimes i push my button to release the latch and i here a click but the latch doesn't release. Usually by putting pressure on the bag with my leg and pushing the button a few more times it will release. Usually happen when my bags are over stuffed and there is to much pressure pushing outward.
If this is not your problem and your latch is releasing but still not opening then i would say something is broken inside. I took my bags apart to replace the lock and they are very complicated, if you get into pulling things apart make sure you take lots of pictures there are tons of loose parts in there.

I had the same problem. I live at about 200 feet elevation and when I rode down to the valley I could not open my saddle bags. The tech I spoke to said I had a vacuum holding the doors shut. I drilled a small hole in both bags and have never had the problem again.

You have snapped the lever (#4) which forces the metal rails with the locking posts to slide to the open position. You will need a screw driver or something to force the rail to slide. Yes, it has happened to me before. I now periodically disassemble my bags and lubricate the moving parts.

Please tell me more...how do I get a screwdriver in there to slide the rod?

I had to bore a hole in the bag to get to it. It has been quite awhile so I don't remember exactly how. I more or less figured it out on the fly. I ended up having to buy a new bag. The inner part that is. Good luck.
