Thanks again to Mr. Semper Fi. I decided to check the valves and rocker shaft end play this morning. I was using the "DIY" of course. I was really surprised to find the rocker end play less than .05mm cold. Boy that's a tight fit when warmed up. The spec is .05mm to .40mm, I found it kind of touchy to hold the adjustment while tightening, it wanted to move a bit. I settled for about .20mm I can live with that. Now there is a noticable click when moving the shaft back and forth.
I also tried out my new "TWIN MAX", what a simple process. I was glad to see the the needle stay dead on zero throughout the rpm range and while increasing sensitivity. The dealer set it a few months ago and they obviously did a good job. By the way I did check the valves before setting up Mr. Twin Max.
I went out for a ride after cleaning up. I don't know if it's all in my head but this 08RT is quieter and runs like a dream now that I have over 10K on the clock. When you do your own work and double check your self it can be very rewarding.

'07GSA here and checked my end play on the rockers cold at .012 and I left them be. The engine is quiet and runs smooth. My /7 rocker play is much less at .003 to near nill, which is norm for them oldies. When I found a .012 sliding into my rocker end play, I was a bit surprised its that big a gap. At 44000 miles, its been so very fine for me. My Twin Max has been with me since they made the first models of this tool. Its been a welcome addition for me and all my bikes too. I have found once my GSA cables are set, they rarely get off again for very long periods/miles. I still carry it in my saddlebags everywhere I go, even though its rarely used. Peace of mind, I guess, knowing its back there in the bags. One tip for the TM is I disconnect the battery, with it consatantly bumping around in the saddlebags(its bubble wrapped). I left the battery connected in the beginning and the unit could accidentally turn on by itself, displacing the battery use! I do not know the new ones are this way, but the old TMs are, with the on/off button exposed to this. I ride offroad so the TM gets rattled more than some RTs,etc..Bubble wrap helps keep it safe back there:). Randy:thumb

Jeff -
You're quite welcome and do enjoy seeing these posts.
BTW the TBS DIY done by Don Eilenberger is one of the most informative i have seen.
