Been there, done that. The CFB isn't bad but it's not as great as one might believe. Actually I was more impressed by the steaks, and the service.
But, having said that, Manfred is right, everyone should eat there at least once.

I had chicken fried bacon at the Texas State Fair last week, and it was the most disgustingly greasy crap I've ever put in my mouth. My wife and I took a couple bites of one piece each then threw the rest away. The moment I got home I hit the Listerine. But even after several rounds of Listerine, two meals, two brushings, a night's sleep, and around 16 hours, my mouth could detect grease until mid morning the next day. For all I know, Sodolak's does it better, but I ain't bettin' on it.

Yeah if it isn't fried quick and served right away I can see that potential.
Your description and resulting actions to rid yourself of the flavor puts me off a little but that place sure looks interesting.
Thanks for your replies.

Fried Mountain Oysters are much better, IMHO, than CFB, although CFB done right is tasty (luckily I'm on Crestor!). BTW, I've often wondered why one would wrap a fine tenderloin filet with bacon.......why would you put pig on steak?:dunno

Dude...eating anything at the State Fair:hungover :laugh:laugh:laugh my daughter said they had Fried BUTTER this year... WTF???! But yes, Sodolaks CFB right from the frier is not greasy at all...and the bacon is almost fried away into the lighter than I would thought crust...I wouldn't eat 20 pieces of it, but a few are really pretty tasty.

Offal is a word that means rubbish, it can also refer to the viscera and trimmings from a butchered animal. The euphemistically named "mountain oysters" fall into this category. To each his own..... I prefer oysters to be of the ocean harvested variety. I agree about the" pig on steak"!

I love my bacon. I love my steaks. But, I don't want bacon with my steak.
Looking at the pictures on that web site, I can feel my arteries starting to harden up and the cholesterol starting to fill them. If I was to eat there, I had better make an appointment for another angioplasty right afterwards.

Fried Mountain Oysters aren't bad at all. Had a platter in a tiny truck stop around Guymon OK. And what a platter it was, there was 6 or 8 of us eating them. I would eat them again.
Worst thing I ate was a cold chicken foot. Warm, they're not so bad.

Try Bruces Bar next time your near Fort Collins. Severance, Colorado was swallowed in whole by Fort Collins, but the last I heard, even after new management, bruces is the place to go for 4 hoofed oysters!
http://brucesbar123.com/
The best I ever ate was by a chef named Rocky Ferracini. Breaded and fried, Italian style! his son is still a chef somewhere in Eastern Colorado.
Our big cattle rancher friends Carl Weiss family (God rest his soul) would have a cattle drive from Brush, Colorado to Woodrow once per year, about a 50 mile cattle drive to summer pasture, and return to the feed lot for the winter. A couple of weeks before, all the calves would be cut, and the nuts saved for Mr. Ferracini to feed all the hired hands who did the cattle drive; sort of symbolic huh?
Those times, driving the cattle 4-5 thousand cattle at a time with 50 miles of open sand hills and prairie were times I will never forget, and to my knowledge, the bi annual cattle drives in this part of the world have ceased happening.

Lived in Amarillo for 5 years in the early 70's.....moved there from back East. My neighbor worked at a feed lot. He would, periodically, bring home a bucket of balls and we would have a "Beer and Balls" party. Marinate 'em, roll'em in flour, and then deep fry 'em. Gotta love it.

Dude...eating anything at the State Fair:hungover :laugh:laugh:laugh my daughter said they had Fried BUTTER this year... WTF???!
Can't say I completely disagree with you! :D I pretty much limit myself to a couple of fresh corn dogs with mustard and one experiment. This year's experiment was that chicken fried bacon. There was no way I was going to try that fried butter, although I heard it was more along the lines of a fried biscuit where the biscuit's dough had a ton of butter. Still gross, if you ask me.
BTW, every year at the fair I make sure to get a proper root beer on draft. The small root beer booth is right in front of the car show. Mmmmm..... You just don't see much proper root beer on tap, so I get it once a year at the fair.
I love my bacon. I love my steaks. But, I don't want bacon with my steak.
An exception: a nice filet of beef with bacon wrapped around the side is a classic.
