We have some room in our Biiig garage/barn kinda thing to store bikes over the winter. (As El Dookey of the Rounders mine ain't one of them to be stored.)
We have a couple of areas on pavement and one pole barn with a packed dirt floor.
Any idea what would be a fair amount of rent to charge for people to store their bikes at our house? 10-15 bux a month? It isn't heated, but it is out of the weather.
What say you forum friends.....?

That sounds like a fair price to me. I'd pay it if I needed a place to store my bike.

I would charge the non-rounders a couple of cases of your favorite malt beverage. Next spring you can host a "Rounder Reunion" with beverages furnished by the non-rounders.

You want advice? No problem...
We used to run a self-storage business. If you check on local rates for the minimum size to store a bike, you'll have good comparables. BUT...
A commercial provider has to put up with "What do you mean, it's not insured by you for water damage?" "Where does the contract recommend the tenant insure the contents? I thought that's what the storage company has to do." "What do you mean, it's not your fault if mice are chewing through my couch?" "I didn't think you were serious about wrapping up my stuff, it's covered and enclosed storage, right?"
Etc.
If it's open storage and not separate cubbies, what if one person damages another bike while manuevering their own? What if a stand gives way causing one bike to fall on another?
So I would say no price is worth it. Do it for friends, for free, and take your chances. Don't do it for money.

Wouldn't storing a motorcycle on a packed dirt floor during the winter months be more conducive to condensation, and potential rusting of parts on the motorcycles?
I know of people that have stored cars in this environment who had some "extra" rust come spring that may not have been there had it been stored on concrete.
No offense or anything, just wondering.

As always I can count on my forum buddies to come through with good perspectives.
Truth be told I was just going to do it for some close folks (i.e. family), but they are the kind of people who do little to nothing for me gratis and Jules and I feel a little taken advantage of. We have let them store for free in the past (in the cement floor part, the deluxe accomodations). I do not want to let them store for free any more, then I started thinking about the other areas in the barn for other people - but I guess I don't want the potential liability issues and hassles.
Think I tell 'em $15 per month per bike, paid up front and let it go at that. Just the three bikes. (Their bikes will be all jealous of mine, seeing it get ridden and having attention paid to it all winter.....)

Then there was the second wife of the guy in Bozeman MT who stopped paying on the storage unit in Spokane because she was told it was the first wife's stuff, and she decided enough was enough. When the unit was opened it was discovered to contain the remains of the first wife and their child.
