I thought I would be able to use my RKA tankbag that I have used on my oilhead RT on my hexhead RT but the bag is much too close to the bars and I would have great difficulty during parking lot maneuvers. I like the Tourtech option

but the dimensions are very similar to the old RKA bag. Anyone have this bag or can make a recommendation of another bag that does not impinge on the bars near full lock? I prefer something that has side and/or back pockets to place those little items that get lost in one big compartment.
Thanks.
I use this bag on my R1200S and it fits fine, even with a Zumo 660 mounted. Measurements are provided as well, so I hope this helps.

I use an SW Motech bag from Twisted Throttle. Once you mount the gas cap ring, it simply snaps on or off with ease.
Full lock to the left allows slight contact between the bag and the handlebars, but permits locking the fork.

Check here for what I use. It came with a rain cover that still allows me to see my maps, and is expandable as well.
There are two tank bags for the R1200RT at Wunderlich. The large one has a horn button protector included.

I have the small Touratech tank bag. It doubles as a backpack if you need to take it with you, it can be carried by the handle. The small size means it does not obstruct anything, including your handlebars as you turn. I also like the small pocket on the exterior front portion. You can guide any cables or wires under the body of the bag and along the rails, out of sight. Affordable too.

AS far as I know, so far the only tank bag that snaps quickly on to and off of the R1200RT's rails is the BMW tank bag. So that is what I use.

Linda T at http://customtankbags.com/ will make you what you want and/or need for good value. She is an artist when it comes to completing a personal item. I am very pleased with the bag she made for my RT and the custom bike cover and drink system that each fit on the passenger pegs. Give her a shout before you buy. No affiliation blah, blah - just happy!:clap

+1
There's nothing better, and if price is a problem, used ones pop up every now and then.

Thanks for the replies, everyone.
I have narrowed my search to two possibilities: The Touratech option and the Wunderlich option. I like the Touratech a bit better as it has the larger rear pocket and has the option of adding some separate accessory bags. But I don't like the price - $398.80 is a bit steep plus the cost of the rear pocket which I like so much. The Wunderlich option seems very similar, comes with a bracket to protect the horn button, and is more reasonably priced at $209.00. I don't like the exposed grey material when the bag is expanded to full size. Looking at the Touratech option, it seems like it will have the same grey material when expanded.

Can someone confirm that indeed this grey material shows on the Touratech?
And does anyone have the Wunderlich model and can confirm that the bag is waterproof enough not to need the raincover as they suggest?
Thanks again, everyone.
