I want to lower the bike and I know BMW offered a low suspension option. Is the rear shock linked? Many bikes can lengthen the links and lower the seat height. Or does BMW use a shorther rear damper?

you would want to get a shorter shock- there is no linkage on them. I would not bother buying new OEM- for similar $ you can get a custom built unit that is easily rebuildable, and will give better performance always. if you could find barely-used OEM from a private seller would be the only other reasonable option.

Hello,
I have a 1994 R1100 RS that needs shocks. What shape are yours in? Are they for sale?
Let me know, thanks.

I have a 94 R1100RS, and as far as I know, BMW never offerred a lowered suspension for the RS. In fact, until the R1100S showed up, BMW did not even offer a suspension upgrade, such as the Ohlins shocks.
Ohlins, Wilbers, Hyperpro, Hagon all can make custom shocks for your bike. Every one of them can produce shocks to lower the bike, perhaps an inch or two. As far as stock shocks on BMWs are concerned, I would not waste any money on them. The stock shocks are crap after just 20,000 miles and replacement stock shocks are only good for the same mileage. If you desire a lowered ride, any of the custom shock builders are the way to go.
But, why lower your bike? I'm 5'-6" tall, with a 30" inseam, and I ride a stock height R1100RS, now with Wilbers shocks. I have the seat set in the middle adjustment position. Plus I have gone through multiple riding training classes to improve my confidence and abilities on the bike. I would stay with the stock suspension height, maybe get a custom Sargent seat to lower the seating position about 1.5", and get some quality custom shocks on the bike.

The shocks seem fine and have 30,000 miles on them. When I get the shorter shocks I'll gladly sel you mine for cheap. If interested pm me.
Regarding why lower the bike, Ijust like to have a firm footing when stopped. IT's big heavy bike. I might do the seat thing first and if that doens't satisfy me then the shocks.
Thanks for the input.

fwiw- 30,000 mile factory shocks are worth the cost of shipping, maybe. From a functional standpoint, they are better than leaking ones, and will certainly keep the fender off the tire. from a performance standpoint, they really are not worth diddly.
Rock- my advice is to bite the bullet, and buy something new(er). if you're on a tight budget, YSS are one of the best deals around. of course, as with all things- it's your choice.
