I have a 2000 r1100rt and kind of suddenly I have alot more free play at the clutch lever than is correct. Like an additional 1/2 inch. The cable sleeve comes out of the adjustment sleeve about 3/8 inch. There is a right angle in the cable down below the handlebars and it will not straighten out. The clutch still disengages but the lever has to be pulled all the way to the hand grip. Any ideas on what the problem is or any solutions? The bike has 22k on it.

The adjuster on the back of the transmission (clutch actuation arm) has come loose and is preparing to fall out. Wait till the exhaust is cold, then remove your left hand trim panel, and reach in there.

I took off the left panel and the right side fairing. I cant see or feel anything loose on the mechanism. The lock nut looks tight. I was able to adjust the free play at the hand lever so it is better now. I dont know how it will ride. Could I have stretched the cable? Without knowing the cause can I damage it riding it this way or will it just maybe break down.
Thanks

The cable would not have stretched that much unless its ready to break (unlikely). I guess the adjuster at the handlebar must have moved, but 3/8" is a pretty hefty change.
Btw, carry a spare clutch cable with you all the time. And the little stubby throttle cables too.

When that happened to me, it was becauase most of the clutch cable threads broke. The few that remained intact produced ALOT of stretch. However, the remaining threads only lasted two or three pulls before snapping.
