I am at the point where I remove the bolts securing the wire retainer. Right side went ok, left side has me stynied as I can't get the short side of the allen wrench into the bolt head, and while I can get the socket on the nut, there is no room for the ratchet wrench to attach. There is also not enough room to just put an open or closed wrench around the bolt. Is there some other tool I need to be using?
As I'm sure many an airhead has had the starter motor out, I looking for advice. Or begging for advice. Any wisdom available?
thanks

Seems to me when I did this I used a 1/4" drive ratchet with a 13mm socket (I think that was the size). I think that once you get it out, you can reverse the direction of the bolt so that it's easier to get at the nut next time.

1/4" drive 13mm flex socket will get that pesky bugger out.
Local CTire didn't have 1/4" drive, but a 3/8" drive works if you're careful.

I have repalced starters before and didn't find 'em too difficult. Truly, I cannot recall exactly how I did it, but flex sockets are at times very useful.

Thanks for all the sugestions. I got her done
I sourced a non-ratchet type socket wrench from the ubiquitous Canadian Tire and was able to get enough socket on the nut to start the beast moving. German engineering makes things sooo tight.. Now to install the starter I purchased on Ebay.

Shiney side up.

Good job.

I may be interested in the old starter if you are interested in unloading it. PM me if you are please.
