Clutch life? Ok, the bike has 40,000 on it and has been owned by two Gentlemen prior. The last one said he avoided downshifting along with engine braking (brake pads are cheaper). The guy before him babied it with the dealer at every service interval up to about 25,000. I bought it at 34,000. Any expert opinions out there?
The old clutch test of reving the engine while driving in 5th and dumping the clutch to see how fast the rpms drop back to norm is good. What are some lifespans for these babies. Oh, while we're at it How about Trans as well-no weird noises yet.:beer

Well, I am not an expert, but I just turned 400,000 miles on my 1977 R100 RS and this is my third clutch plate!
One went out with a stripped spline at 120,000 lots of material left.
Second one after 230,000 miles and third I am still working on.

Depends on how you ride the clutch, I wouldn't worry yet at 40,000 miles!
