I just had a pace maker "installed" a few days ago. Does anyone else have one of these gems and do you do anything gear wise for protection of this little life saver?

My neighbor has had a pacemaker for years. He leads a very active life style (golf, curling, walking, splitting wood and yard work). He avoids being around somethings such as small engines that are used close to the body (e,g, string trimmer), and it seems to get him out of chores and honey do's he wants to avoid. Really, based on this one example, it does not appear that a pace maker will be a limitation as far as biking is concerned assuming you have no other issues.

Ride on my friend.. I have a Pacemaker and a Defibulator and it has slowed me down some (not) I've already got 19 K miles this year. still have three months to go. I also drag a C-Pap along with me on overnighters. as far as the gear you wear, it shouldn't make any differance as long as your comfortable. :thumb

Don't let a that PM stop you. Live life to it's fullest at your discretion. If you do plan on a long trip, I would suggest speaking with your cardiologist or personal physician about your intention's prior to your departure.
You know your body and limitation's. There used to be a time when a pacemaker was just a death sentence. Not anymore!!! The technology is amazing.
If you feel that there could be something wrong with your pacemaker, NEVER HESITATE TO CALL FOR AN AMBULANCE!!!!!!!!! I just recently responded to a call where the patients' pacemaker was occasionally firing off for 3 day's. We had to cardiopace his heart in route to the E.R. The batteries were just about dead in the pacemaker, along with the patient. That was just due to his own stubborn attitude.
Ride on and enjoy life. Just monitor yourself on a regular schedule. It can be a pain in the posterior but, you will be able to do a lot more riding and be around with family and friend's.

Another thing you can now enjoy is the wanding and pat down at the airport security line each time you fly. I love it when they tell me they are going to use the back of their hand to touch private areas..........like that makes a difference!!:eek

I was patted down the airport and told the lady from the TSA that she had 20 minute's too stop that. I then stated if she is going to conduct a cavity search, I want a kiss and a cigarette.
The lady had no sense of humor. I cannot believe our tax dollar's are being spent on these commie's. Not all the TSA people are ate up. I understand that they have a job too do. These day's we are all guilty until proven innocent!

I rode all over the US with a friend who had PMaker...I knew about his meds, emergency response protocols, etc.. Never had a problem we couldn't handle.. he even fell off the bike running 70 MPH on the interstate when the bike started "tank slapper"... and only ruined his wallet.... not another scratch or other injury to him.
I say "rode" because he's riding the sky on angel wings now... ride on brother.. ride on..

Don't want to hit the panic button here, but how about a SPOT messenger so you can give out our location in case of an emergency?
