i first noticed oil on rubber shaft boot but on closer examination it looks like it's leaking from the end of the shift arm.it's trans oil.could that felt seal wrapped around the shift rod be the problem?are there other transmission seals that might do this?the engine and transmission surface show no oil leaks except for the above mentioned.any thoughts?thanks.

Just be sure it's not the oil pressure switch which is located slightly above the shift lever. But replacing the seal is not a big deal, so I've read. Lean the bike to right, supporting the right jug on something soft. Remove the center bolt and make note of the depth of the existing seal. Remove the old seal, install the new seal to the same depth, install the shift lever. I don't think the bolt needs to be super tight...probably just snug.

Your leak is most likely from the seal on the clutch thrust piston. Remove the release arm and wiggle the piston out, then replace the seal.

Hmmm...lostboy might be onto something...I read "shift arm" and only thought of the "shift lever" as in foot shift lever. I didn't factor in the rubber boot...nothing like that on the foot lever! :banghead Well, I guess that's different, huh??
