Just got a reply to my WTB query for K75S side covers; these offered are off a '90 75S; have two tabs on top, a fiber dowel on the back and a metal clip on lower section. My k75S is a '94 and I've heard the later models had a slightly different system of attachment...:scratch

What's the going rate for these in presumably good condition, anyone care to hazard a ballpark figure?:scratch ...Or maybe I should ask what these sell for new?:scratch

I don't care about color as they'll get painted along with the rest of my tupperware very soon.

Also, can I still mount these somehow (perhaps cut them down or cut the seat pan some) on a bike with the low-seat (I already removed and will leave off that tank/kneepad rubber surround thingy)?:scratch

Seem to remember reading a post here one time about three different versions of the K75 side cover mounting systems/tabs. Darned if I can find it via searching a number of times with different terms...:banghead

Also have some '91 K75 side covers now being offered to me and really need to find out if they'll fit/attach OK on my '94 before I pull the trigger.

Paul, Don, or Lee are you guys out there? White courtesy phone, plleeease!

Hmmm... lets see if I can remember the three different sidecovers...

1 - 1985 K bike ones - used grommets at both upper corners (one was in the tank, one in the frame) and a metal spring loaded finger that mounted in a plastic gizmo on the cover and went over to the peg sticking out of the frame, which then had a rubber cover over it for the finger to click onto. This one typically suffered from the finger breaking out of the plastic gizmo due to brain farts of forgetting to remove the cover before moving the fuel tank.

2 - Original K75 ones - I seem to recall the front grommet remaining, and the metal spring finger remaining, but the rear grommet was replaced by a little peg that stuck out of the cover and went into a corresponding hole in the rear seat surround. Failure mode on this was the peg breaking off (what WERE they thinking?).. plus the metal finger still liked to break out of the plastic on the cover.

3 - Last K bike ones - front grommet still there - the rear peg still there from #2, but they replaced the metal spring thingie with a plastic hook sort of thing that went in and wrapped around the rubber covering over the peg on the frame. This one failed by the plastic hook breaking, and the peg out the back breaking.

Would have been lots simpler if they made them screw in place like the R12R ones do.. :)

Thank you, Don; I gather that the '91 side covers should basically work if the mounting bits are all there; guess I'' give them a go.

Much appreciate your response, I was beginning to think this site was down it was so quiet around here:)

Hi,
My RTP has 3 grommets. The low mount has a hole on the grommet. You thread the grommet into the metal rod (part of the frame). Once this is done, move the cover back or forward until the points (front and back of the cover) aligh with the rubber grommets in the frame, then push them in. It does help to use silicon grease or spray to lubricate the rubber. My RT (same year as the RTP, both '95) has a different mounting system. At the rear it pushes onto the (breakable) rod on the seat frame, a pin pushes into a rubber grommet at the front and I don't remember how the lower mount works and I'm not near the bike to go look.

K75 RT battery covers are a different shape than the Ss and use different mounts.

I BELIEVE all K75 Cs and Ss and maybe standards use compatible battery covers.

My May of '86 S and my two July of '88 Ss have two plastic tabs at the top that engage the flange of the gas tank (covered by plastic welting), plus a spring metal tab that clips over a rubber covered stud on the frame, and the pin in the back. If I remember correctly ALL Ss that I have worked on had this same arrangement (including a yellow '95).
