Since the damping may be changed on the fly, does anyone know approximately how long it takes to acually alter the setting: i.e. from "sport" to "comfort"? I realize the dash icon readout is immediate, but that's also the case for the preload icons - yet it takes about 10" from button push to the establishment of the new setting.

Incidentally, I read that Packard developed a driver adjustable suspension back in the 1930's with a dash mounted knob controlling a series of levers. One pushed the knob toward the dash to increase damping and reversed it to reduce damping. They soon had to alter the original dash labels, however which read "In=Hard" and "Out=Soft"!

Can the ESA be changed while in motion? My experience indicates not. My '07 RT wants the bike to be still and in neutral. Then again, I could be wrong . . . . . again!

Unless it was altered after the '05-'06 models, the damping may be changed anytime the motor is running, including while moving. The preload may only be changed while stopped. What does the manual say for your '07?

Wezul is confused between damping and preload.

I feel the difference immediately with damping changes, particularly from Sport to Comfort.

On the fly modes (Comfort,Normal & Sport) is changing the damping not the ride height of the bike as when changing preload which takes some time as the ride height is adjusted and must be done with the bike running in neutral at a standstill.

From my experience the damping changes are immediate.

The damping (Sport/Normal/Comfort) can be changed while in motion. You must be stopped, in neutral, to change rear pre-load (one helmet/one helmet + luggage/two helmets + luggage).
