new RT owner! VERY nice bike! Very happy with it, shouldn't have waited so long to buy one!
Sorry, I digress.
How do you get the radio out of the R1200RT?

Leave the lid open and park it in a rough part of town for 45 minutes?

This will get you to the point where the radio almost falls out.

Piece of cake after the tank is off, I put a false floor in the bottom of my radio box to protect the left over bits.

You Don't have to take the gas tank off, you do have to remove all the plastic. I pulled my radio, and the mounting box completley out of the bike, a 2009 RT. I rewired it from the rear speaker pin outs on the back of the OEM radio/cd player to a stereo audio cable that plugs into a little wireless bluetooth stereo dongle, so that I can have wireless, stereo, bluetooth to my wireless bluetooth stereo custom earplugs in my helmet. It works like a champ. This way I can have any CD or the radio playing by, using the speaker fader function on the radio controls on the left side of the faring, just below the handlebars, all I do is press the function button till the speaker volume bars go all the way to the rear speakers. Wha-la!
Don't be in a hurry, keep track of all the screws, they can get lost easly. It's not hard just a little tricky getting the Antenna wire out and the big plug to the radio is very unusual in how it releases, to say the least.
Good Luck,

If you're taking the radio out and want to sell it, shoot me a PM.
Thanks,
