Hello Everyone. About 2 weeks ago, my '09 GSA began to have starting issues. The only way to get it to start was to hold the throttle partially open while hitting the starter button. After a few seconds, maybe 5, it would start, but then sound like it was running on one cylinder. After racing the engine for about, maybe 10 seconds by reving the throttle, it would clear up and seemed to run fine. It did not matter if the engine was warm or cold. So I called my dealer and set an appointment up.

Next the fuel strip started to act up. I think we all know those issues. The bike has 10,500 miles on it so another thing to add to the list. However, after about three full tanks of gas (I always use Shell Premium when available), the bike began running fine and the fuel strip came back on and was working fine.

Yesterday I rode to dealer (130 miles away) and they took a look at it. Fault codes showed fuel strip issues but they could find nothing else. So they replaced the strip. In the process, the mechanic has to put his hand inside the fuel tank. When he did, after about tens or so seconds, his hand began feel like it was being burned. He pulled his hand out, and it was all red. They came back to me and ask me what kind of gas was in the bike. Did I put any additives in it?

Well to shorten this story, I told them nothing but Shell Premium fuel. They finished their work and I was on my way. I rode all interstate for about 45 miles, then pulled off for a bite to eat. Bike died when I pulled in the throttle. It now had the same issue starting that I started the thread with. Except, unless considerable throttle, it would not stay running.

Called BMW Roadside Assistance, 40 minutes later, the bike was hauled off back to the dealer and I sat for an hour and half waiting for wife to come pick me up (my choice, not BMW's).

So anyone ever hear of gasoline like this? By the way, the dealer had to remove some of my gas, so they replaced it with their gas, not the same that came out.

Anyone know where I can get gasoline tested (Illinois)? I have already talked to several sources about the quality issues of our gasoline, but that should be another thread. In short, gasoline in the US is crap and we should all find a way to get all the garbage out of it the government is forcing down our throats.

I've never heard of gasoline that will begin burning your hand after just a few seconds of exposure. The station where I bought the gasoline has not had anyone complain (talked to two different employees). I open for ideas.
