I need some advice for replacing my stock headlamp bulb for a Xenon H7. I have an 09 R12GS and I'm looking for some farkles. The ad on ebay says, nothing else needed, so all you do is switch it out. Sounds like a cheap upgrade(less than $20). What am I missing? Any suggestions? Thanks

HIDs (xenon) require a starting ballast that delivers a high voltage startup and then a lower voltage running.
Beware eBay scams
Search for "r1200gs hid conversion" in google and you will find more info.

That is what's so confusing. I suspected it would not be so easy. I've talked with 2 dealers today and there are bulbs that can be easily switched like a PIIA bulb. Some say they are brighter but not a true Halogen(I think). I ordered a pair today for $10 and will take a chance. The PIIA's were $70 or so. Thanks for your help!

The stock bulbs on the GS are halogen. The aftermarket ones you are looking at are just different color and are of questionable benifit. I have an HID kit on both my high and low, no comparison, much better than stock.
But, with power comes the responsibility to keep them properly aimed as to not make other drivers mad.
