View Full Version : R1100RT Lurch when backing off throttle

If I'm in 2nd gear going around 4 to 5K rmp, and I want to ease off a bit there is a point at which the power cuts and the front end lurches a bit. I think I've seen that this is not uncommon but need to check with those who know. Is this just way it acts, or is there an issue with the throttle adjustment, or even the shocks? The bike has 18K miles and the stock shocks. Not really in a position to upgrade the shocks unfortunately.
Any thoughts?

at 18K your stock shocks are approaching end of "best" service, but are certainly not the cause of the lurching, and do not need to be replaced quite yet.
begin with an exact valve adjustment and TBS, and see what that does to improve throttle response. it might be a flat spot in the torque curve, not sure about RT specifics (i ride a R11S with Laser chip and pipe- which removed all flat spots quite nicely).

I seem to recall an explanation for this, but I could be wrong. When you shut off the throttle to decelerate, the fuel is cut off until you get down to about 2K rpm. At some point the fuel injectors come back on to avoid stalling. At that point you feel a lurch and then deceleration continues. That is how it feels on my bike.

Yes, with fuel injection fuel injection is electronically completely cut off.
This isn't possible with carburetors.
Carbs give your motor what it wants. Fuel injection gives it what it needs.
