Please note that the rear drive fluid change has been modified to show the fill process occuring thru the specified fill hole, rather than the originally shown fill method via the speed sensor hole.

This greatly reduces the complexity and the wear and tear on speed sensor and harness removal and re-installation.

I would like to thank CJack and SVCWKR for their valuable feedback.

With 41k on the clock, my rear bearings failed on the K1200GT. The local shop is not saying how or why they failed. Of course bike is out of warrenty. All service has been performed at this same shop on regular basis per recommended intervals. Anyone have a simular case?

Update: At the time of purchase, I bought a extended warrenty! I had forgot this little fact. I am waiting to hear from the Dealer as to how much is covered under this warrenty. Will update when all is clear up, this should include the why bearings failed.

Update 11/8/09: Extended warrenty has come through! All repair costs covered, except rotor, tire and brake pad replacement. I have not picked up the bike yet. I will see old parts at that time. I will update with cause after that time.

Update 11/26/09: Repair is complete. Bearings failed. Now that repair is complete, the feel from the rear when engaging gear, is very soild feel now. This feel is even different from new. Maybe a bad set of bearings from manufacture.

Ask them to see what BMW will do on a goodwill basis. They need to step up to go to bat for you here. Who is the dealer??

Welcome aboard Doug - if your work was done all thru the dealer - they may be able to work with you and BMWNA on this - can't hurt to ask.

My final drive on my 07 KGT started leaking around the outer seal at 14K. It's at the dealer now, they are saying the problem was caused by too much fluid in the drive. It seems that BMW recommends less fluid for these final drives... I hope their right!
