I thought I was setting my R1100RT down gently. Stupid me, when I rocked it off the center stand the side stand landed on my toe. My reaction caused the bike to tip away from me. Rather than fight it I lowered to the ground.

I'm amazed at how easily the footpeg plate breaks, I'm now more amazed at how much a new footpeg plate costs.

I found several used left side plates, no right side plates. The dealer said, "Yea, they break pretty easy."

Anyone replaced this part? Anything I should know before I start? Thanks

Yes. the plate is made of aluminum. It can be successfully TIG welded. I had the same problem and a local welder charged me $50. This contrasts with the dealer quote of $360 for a new piece.

I replaced twice. and then broke it the thrid time tryiny to install it. When you go to snug it down be very carefull that it dose not twist. Carefully hand tighen it, if you feel any spnogeingness(sp) check that all the mounts are not bent. Yuo may have to shim one if it moved durring the fall.

The way the plate broke welding didn't look like an option so I bite the bullet and paid $309 at Bob's BMW for a new plate and put it on last night. No problems replacing the plate and now that I know how easy it can break I'll be much more careful if I have to set it down again.

Always check with Beemer Bone Yard. They have lots of parts at way less $$$ than the dealer.
