View Full Version : Flip-a-lever cruise for 1992 K100RS?

Anyone have one on a 86-02 K100RS? Bought one on spec and couldn't modify it to work. I know they have the friction adjustability of the factory screw on my previous K75 plus the ability to easily turn off or on with your thumb. (A friend with an oilhead had BOTH a flip-a-lever and a Throttlemeister and much preferred the cheaper flip-a-lever.)

If any of you have the model number which fits my bike (are all the K100's the same in this department?) and a source which sells them, I would be very grateful for a reply.

My el cheapo home invention "cruise control" has tightened up a bit, to the point where I think this is a bad idea.

If flip-a-lever is NOT available for this bike, I would welcome other suggestions short of automotive type cruise control.

The ONLY thing I dislike about this bike is pain in my hands and wrists; mostly from the vibration at 4-5 thousand rpm, rather than weight on the wrists, I think.

If you search around here, you'll find there's a thread about Schneider going out of business because of a lawsuit about the Flip-a-lever. That was a few years ago.

I have one on my R1100RS. On that bike, it required drilling and tapping the top half of the throttle cover. I found it very effective, but now, with over 200,000 miles on the bike, the threads on the lever have worn the throttle cover and it's a bit sloppy.

I had a Flip-A-lever on a 87K100LT and I believe all the K75/K100s used the same throttle friction screw. I have a Throttle Meister on a 91 Honda St1100. At 1st I preferred the F-A-L , but now I favor the TM. TM was 2x the cost. If you can't find a used F-A-L the TM is a great option.

Still confused as usual. The "Flip-a-lever" I bought had NEP on the package and on the control. Is this the same as Schneider? If anyone out there has a 1992 K100RS with that thumb screw common on the earlier K bikes for throttle friction and I'm just too dumb to find it, can someone give me a clue exactly where I will find this concealed cover? I've looked with a flashlight.

Finally, if Throttlemeister is my best bet, can someone confirm that you can set it so the resistance barely holds the throttle in any given position, that you can open or close the throttle without disengaging the tension (passing, hills,) and that you can both engage and disengage the control with only your right hand?

Thanks. And if anyone wants to SELL a flip a lever which works for SURE on a 92 K100RS, I'm your customer.

Hi, Doug,
The Flip-a-lever replaced the BMW throttle stop screw. The 2-valve K-bikes still had the threaded hole on the throttle housing; all you needed was the (less than $10) throttle stop screw or ($39.95 or so) Flip-a-lever. The Flip-a-lever may have been easier to operate, but it's a moot point because I don't believe Schneider's is still selling them.

The 2-valve K-bikes had a little plastic plug in the threaded hole from the factory. I don't believe the housings on the 4-valve K-bikes were drilled and tapped for the screw. I know, at one time, Schneider's had a service where they would drill and tap your housing but, I think, that is gone, too. Isn't it amazing what the threat of a lawsuit can do?

.

The above is correct. the further you rotae the throttlemeister the tighter it hold the throttle.

I have one for the 2 valve. It was listed to fit a K100 and K100LT. I assumed it would fit the RS, but as it turns out, the bars are too close to the tank, so you'd need bar backs, standard or LT bars for it to work on a K1100RS. Mine was already tapped.

FWIW, I was told the Schneider lawsuit was for a kickstand mechanism, not the Flip-a-lever.

Ride safe, shiny side up. Wait, Beemers don't have shiny sides...
